Great News About Our Transmission
Acura transmissions are warranteed up to 9 months/ 109,000miles. I thought it was 7 years and 9 months/109,000 miles. I heard correct and that's exactly what the man sad. My cars been out of warranty for a year now and they helped a lot. I told the mechanic what was wrong slippage between 2nd and 3rd gear, harsh jerks , and slow gear engagement. Well of course none of these symptons were present during the test drive with the mechanic except for the slippage. He wrote it up and got the service manager to sign off the paper work. I was very suprised usually there service is horrible. It took me less than 15 minutes. Labor:Free and Transmission: Free,

As a result of a class action lawsuit settlement, Acura added 9,000 miles and 9 months to the original limits. Hence the new limits are 109,000 miles and 7 years + 9 months.
As always cars with salvage titles are not covered and only some of the 2003 TLs are covered.

Ok guys lets pay attention. As a result of the lawsuit Acura increased the warranty for the 99-03 TL to 7 years 9 months/109,000 which ever comes first. I was told by the service manager that the warranty increased to 9 years/109,000 miles which ever comes first. I have a 99 TL purchased Nov 20, 1998. Since the lawsuit our TLs were supposedly covered for 7 years 9 months/109,000 which ever comes first. My warranty was up last year August 20, 2006 but when I took my TL in the service manager told me the warranty was 9 years/109,000. I thought it was 7 years 9 months/109,000? Sorry for the confusion in my first post.

But you should keep taking your TL to that dealership until you reach the 9 year limit.

I figured he was wrong, but I didn't want to jepordize me gettin' tha' free transmission and labor so I just rolled with it. I wonder why he told me 9 years though. I'll ask after the new tranny is put in and working fine.

So, if I bought my car new in June 2003 the warranty should cover the transmission for the next 7 years, 9 months or 109,000 miles, whichever comes first or did I have to purchase the 'extended' warranty to qualify?
I was at the dealership yesterday about my transmission problem and the service manager never mentioned any of this stuff.

Is it:
a) 9 years / 109000 miles
b) 7 years - 9 months / 109000 miles

b) 7 years + 9 months (93 months) / 109,000 miles, whichever occurs first. Most, if not all 1999 TLs have hit the 93 month limit, regardless of their mileage. Next year that will be the case for the 2000 TL.
Cars with salvage titles and some 2003 TLs are not covered.
Acura has also offered goodwill coverage for some out-of-warranty TLs. As always YMMV.

If you have a 2003 TL you might not have the extended warranty. Acura only offered the extended warranty to the early production run of the 2003 model year. All of the 1999-2002 TLs are covered.
Whether or not a particular 2003 TL is covered depends on the VIN number of car. Acura apparently thought that they corrected the transmission failure problem during the 2003 production run. Most on this forum feel that they did not correct the problem until they made revisions in February of 2005.

You got that right Bob F, I dropped the second trany in my 03 TL Type-S (81K miles) not coverd under the "extended" warrenty last Friday. Sitting in Richmond VA at the moment with dealer who doesn't want to acknowledge it's covered. Acura Client Services is waiting determination. I intend to prusue to limit. First tranny went at 40K miles, locked up at 70 mph almost took out the car next to me (Oct 04). This time doing 70 mph down interstate, tranmission starts slipping with smoke pouring out rear, other cars were slamming brakes becuase they could not see thru smoke. Emergency lane change, stop, get family out of car, no fire, but close. Filed a second now repeat safety (NTSB) incident on same car orginal owner.
