Floor wet........

Yesterday I vacummed my car for the first time since I purchesed it, I noticed the rear driver side rug was completely soaked (where you would put the rear mat) just in the square area, what could cause this? What can I do? It's only in that one area, please help, don't want that wet carpet mold smell to start in my car!!!!!!

Thanks.

Really hard to figure out without looking at the car. Check the trunk where the spare is and see if there is water there.

Dry up all the water first and then put a hose to the trunk and around the rear door. Then look to see where the water is coming in. The tail light/trunk lid is usually where the water leaks through, but you could have a bad seal around your rear door to.

OK. thanks optomos, I'll do that, my whole trunk is soaked right now, I remember seeing some water in spare tire well before I changed my tails so I doubt thats the problem, so I guess its a seal somewhere, I will keep you updated

it may be from any seal. Your best bet is to dry the interior, then just start working the car with a hose (id start low and work my way up until you see water.

OK guys don't beat me up with the questions I may ask in this thread and take into consideration I'm in the finance field and I hardly work on cars but where exactly should I spray the water and where are the main points to check on the car?? (sorry may be silly)

wheel wells are a good place to start. Under teh car tail lights. I would remove as much interior as i could to make spotting it as easy as possibel (ie rear seat, trunk carpet)

I had a leak around my rear passenger taillight after I stripped the trunk down to sound deaden it. When it would rain I would have water in the trunk. After I put weight on the trunk lid with all the sound deadening material and put everything back together it stopped.

Hey guys, just an update, I solved the leak probelm in my trunk, but for some reason the floor behind the drivers seat still continues to get wet when it rains, I don't see water coming in anywhere else in the back, could this be coming from underneth the car somewhere?

how did you solve the leak problem in the trunk? was it a bad seal?
The only holes underneath the car are holes for the ebrake cable to come inside the car. There is always a protective boot around those cables so it seals the holes really good. It could be coming in from the bottom side of the door from a possible bad seal. Spray water around the door and in that area and see if you get any water on the floor. Obviously do this once the floor is dry.

Well I put on the 02 tails so I just got some clear silacone and put it all around the housing of the lights, but I will do what you said, it makes sense and seems to be the only way to find out. Thanks!

well then i would say you either didnt solve the problem or you have 2 leaks. Once again i would say to remove all teh interior you can and start hosing it down. Maybe get a sprinkler under teh car a or go thru a car wash with a underbody flush and stert looking.

its either going to be the tail-light seals or the sun-roof drain channel being plugged up
