floater in gas tank getting stuck!?

soooo I filled up my tank yesterday ($45 later) I went to start my car and the gauge barely moved I said what the fuck!? turned the car off turned it back on went up a quarter... turned off turned on another like 4-5 times and it finally went up to 3/4 of a tank... didnt go up to full until i drove around for another 20 minutes... what the hell!? my boyfriend said its probably the floater... said it happened all the time in his integra... anyone else ever have this issue? any way of knowing for sure its the floater? my car was in the body shop for 3 weeks and I know they had to take alot of my interior apart including my dash... both airbags replaced AND the radio was repaired... could it have been from them touching it? Or am I just trying to point fingers? I never had a problem like this before I dropped the car off...

If it worked after the repair i wouldnt point fingers. If it just started acting up i would say its one of 2 things. Either the sending unit in the gas tank or the gage. Where was the damage at? No real way of knowing what for sure it is without testing.

I picked the car up on Tuesday filled it up yesterday and it started acting up... the damage was on the front passenger side... my concern is if they had to take my dash apart that they may have damaged the gage... seems like all the other gages are working fine though.... the body shop already broke my heated seat button and left gouges in the center console from them prying it apart... going back there tomorrow to have that fixed... thats the only reason why im concerned they messed with something... how can i test if its the sending unit? is that an expensive repair? thanks for the help btw!

Hm well I dont know about your gauage but mine has never been perfect. I have noticed that for instance lets say I have the car on the ON position but not started and lets say its on the 10th line well I have noticed once its started it goes up to the 11th line. Also I noticed it goes down pretty constantly untill it hits the half line where it stays steady for a bit and then starts moving after a bit.

All I know is I have never ran out of gas I say if you think they messed it up thought take it back what could it hurt?

My gauge acts up occationally. One day when the tank was nearly full it only showed that I had 1/4 tank. Sometimes it does not go past the Full mark when I have it topped off.
99 percent of the time it works fine. Just occationally it acts up.

I would just bring it up with them, especially if they took the dash apart. They must have done something wrong
