Fan Issue / Overheating 2002 TL
Hey All
Hopefully this will be an easy one for ya'll. I noticed my temps starting to climb while in standing traffic the other day and was wanting to know what part I would most likely need to fix it. I was fine as long as I was moving but the minute I stopped it would start to climb. I got looking at it and noticed the drivers side fan never kicks on until after I turn the vehicle off. Is that a sign of a bad Coolant Temp Sensor?
Thanks!

Hello:
I have the same problem with a 1999 TL. I thought it was the fan switch so I replaced it twice. No luck. I also replaced the temp sensor and did a flush, making sure to burp the system as well as I could under the situation (fan not coming on). In addition I replaced the thermostat and the radiator cap just to be safe.
If you ever get this figured out I would like to know what the solution is. I still feel like there is air in the system. I have shorted the fan switch connector and the fan comes on. Not sure what to do next.
Thanks

Does anyone know what tells the fan to come on while the engine is running? Whatever tells the fan to come on when the engine is off appears to be working because that's the only time the fan comes on. Anyone have any suggestions on what part I should replace first?
Thanks

I replaced everything except the fan controller and I still have the problem. It all seems to point to the fan switch, since it comes on when the switch is jumped. There might be air in the system still even though I have tried to burp it several times. I suppose it is also possible that the 2 new switches I bought from different manufacturers are both bad.
