Engine Swap for Base to Type S

My 2003 Acura TL engine threw a rod and now I need a new one. I was thinking of upgrading from the base model to the Type-S motor. Does anyone know if this will be a direct fit or will I have to do anything else?

While I cannot answer your question, I do have a question you should answer to make your request more clear to folks reading your words:

Are you talking about sourcing an engine from a 2G Type S, or are you referring to a 3G TL-S?

Yes, it's a direct bolt in with no modifications. You won't reap the full benefits from the Type S engine because you will still have the TL-P ECU, and you won't have a working IMRC.

Oh okay cool, thank you. The Type S motor I am looking at comes with ECU, could I replace the IMRC?

The Type-S ECU will give you the higher redline, but I don't know how it will interact with your TCS. The Type-S uses a VSA unit, but I think it should still run your TCS fine.

The IMRC is powered by a IMRC relay box module thing under the driver's side dash. The Type-S ECU powers that box, so you would need that box and wiring to use IMRC. I think it would be easier for you to just delete the IMRC valve, so you get the max power at high RPM. You would lose a little torque at the bottom end though.
