Engine codes

cylinder 1,2,3,4,5,6 are misfiring and system is too lean bank 2

im pretty damn sure its the egr valve clogged or shot, but i want to see everyone elses opinions on this before i do it.

the car misfires after start up and sometimes dies at idle when first started, this is what is making me believe its the egr valve

With brake cleaner spray down the egr valve and spray the egr ports and their cover first.

That`s the simplest and most inexpensive start to finding the problem.

Reset the ecu when done and see if the codes come back.

Right in front of the throttle body. Smack dab in front of it, 2 screws. Pull the metal cover off. It has 12-10mm screws on it to clean the egr ports. I bet there pretty gunked up if it was never done before. Very easy.

deff will, im doing it sunday, i work tomorrow so im just going to throw the code scanner on it again and double check to make sure nothing else came up telling me what exactly it is. That won't happen, we all know how these engine codes are, but i figured why not

Yeah, if ya have the "CEL" codes checked again, tell us what the actual codes are.

That may help us assist ya better. Many things can cause multiple misfires, but if you're unsure if the EGR passageways have ever been cleaned..... that's a good place to start along with the TB intake. Check the "DIY" sticky for more info.

Usually the plugs are changed at the 105k service, but for all the more they cost.... buy some new NGK's to replace the old ones with. Check for vac leaks, electrical connections and grounds. Could have a bad coil or two ?

The codes i pulled from my car are
P0710 ATF temperture sensor fault
P0705 short in transmission range switch
P0174 system too lean bank 2
P0171 system too lean bank 2
and like i said before all six cylinders are misfiring on idle also.

~Hey Jmpx55x, what all have ya tried so far ?
>Have ya replaced the plugs and checked for a bad coil ?
>How about cleaning the EGR passageways or replacing the O2 sensor ?

Try to check out the gear position selector for connector or wiring problems.
Could be a loose terminal or a pcm issue, IDK.

Download the Factory Service Manual for more precise electrical schematics/trouble-shooting info.

Theres a main ground for the ECU, coils and Range switch right on the thermostat housing check it for corrosion or if its loose. Its good to rule out electrical issues before buying parts. It could also be everything else mentioned. Also remember rats love to chew up on wires while a car sits outside, look out for evidence like bones aluminum foil means they were there.

would that really cause all the banks to be too lean and misfiring? i mean, i was thinking its either the EGR, MAP sensor or the Idle control valve thingy

wrong spark plugs would do it--say the last guy installed 2 buck chuck plugs and they are fried now
there is a reason we need the 8 dollar each ngk

full cleaning of egr system- the passage and ports inside the intake manifold must be cleaned,,not just shoot carb cleaner at it
see diy

codes are CLUES not diagnosis,,have to put them together for an answer,,often unrelated to codes!

you clean the idle control thingy when manifold and TB are off for their cleaning

a clogged egr passage will really screw with the car

A vaccum leak can also cause it, Has any work been done to the car previously ? whats the history on it or did you just purchased it ?

i purchased it, they only work they told me was a new tranny about 6 months before i bought it, i did the master cylinder gas tank with gas lines and brakes all the way around. But i do hear like a whistling coming from the engine when i put the car to the floor, i dont know if thats a vacuum leak or not.

Besides the v-hoses, don't forget all the gaskets and seals involved with the intake components.
