EGR Valve Recall?

Hey guys,
I was browsing through the forums and found that someone mentioned an EGR Valve Recall. I never heard of it, does one exists? If so, what do they do? Thanks.

I had my car at the dealer for an oil change and they installed an EGR Pipe Kit under warranty. I didn't have any symptoms but the invoice noted "check engine light". They noted the symptom as "L40" and ethe defectcode as "537". The part number was ACC 06175-P8E-A01 "Kit EGR PIPE". My '99 TL is out of warranty but they told me this came under a 14-year, 150,000 Acura warranty.

I have the same problem with my 99 Tl that has 101000 miles (failed inspection last week in Boston). I called the ACURA Client services and they will not honor the recall. They said that it had an extended warranty up to 80 000 miles which my car no longer falls into. Is there anyway i can get them to fix it for free. the dealer is askin $400.00 and up?

Is it worth it to pursue Acura Client services to get it fixed or should i just pay it from my own pocket??

So do you have a check engine light on? or a code P0401 showing? if so this is what you want.

or you can do a little search on this forum for that code and just clean the IM yourself

those 2 arent the same thing. 1 has to do with clogged ports in the Intake Manifold, the other has to do with the egr
P0401= EGR Insufficient Flow Detected
P1491= EGR Valve Lift Insufficient Detected

do you consider cleaning the clogged IM ports is an easy task?
I have done some work on other cars plus i have changed the spark plugs on this TL but nothing major...
i might take chance and get it done myslef. i have seen some procedures taking out the intake Manifold but not too percise...
do guys know of any good step by step procedure...i just wanted to do it the right way...
thanks

I dont have one for the 99. the 99 is a little different than the 2000 which i did a diy on.(below)
Your IM is different and only have the 9 bolts to remove to get it off (and the hoses and cables) then you just clean every thing you see

99 IM https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...light=cleaning

very easy. mine cloged also around 70k and i just did them again not that long ago

start off by getting 3 or so cans of SPRAY carb cleaner and acouple small scrub brushes.
if your engine is any thing like the 2nd gen
baisicly you take the plastic engine cover off 4 10-mm bolts. then disconect the battery. they disconect the rubber hose that goes from the air box to the throttle body. continue to unplg any thing that goes to the intake (any plugins hoses) then there are 10 10mm bolts on the top plate (the part that sticks up thru the plastic engine cover) oull that straight up being carefull to not damage teh gasket. then there are like 8 bolts (12mm i think, i cant remember off the top of my head) then you are able to pull the upper part of the intake manifold off (double check before you pull straight up that every thing is disconected) then get your self a nice place to work and start cleaning. (stick a bag over the TB before you hose every thing down like in my pic to be safe)
it sounds like alot but its really easy should take about a hr to do

hey fsttyms1,

yesterday i cleand the Intake Manifold on my 99-TL (second Gen). It was a pretty easy job to do. excpet for the two bottom hoses attached to the TB. I could not get them to unplug for a while. The whole thing took 2 hours to do. After i was done I took the car for a spin and let me tell you, what a difference !!! the car drives really nice. It feels like NEW. I never seen it reving up to 6500rpm until yesteday, before it would auto-shift at 4500rpm. Big difference...i filled up the gas tank yesterday to check how much difference cleaning the IM would make on gas consumption. I will post my findings next week or two when i fill up gas again...
The time spent was worth it...
thanks for the help...
Khalid

IM & TB cleaning is pretty easy, eveyone should do this themselves, paying 300-400 for a mechanic to do it is just highway robbery. also it is fun and you know you did it the right way and cleaned in very well. I have a 99 TL and there is only 1 EGR port and mine was pretty clogged, I cleaned it up really good and installed thermblok spacers and it made a nice difference in power and response. the hoses on the botton of the TB are by far the hardest step to taking off entire IM & TB, so that is pretty good sign that a few hoses are the biggest obstacles you will face when doing this.
