Driver's side HID goes out occationally
The Driver's side HID headlight goes out on my 99TL occationally. About 3/4 times in 4/5 months.
1. The bulbs were replaced 1 and 1/2 years ago. I switched out the bulbs a month ago. Problem still exists (it when out yesterday Jan 21st, so it's NOT the bulb) I always discover it out when the high beams are on. Usually when I pull into my garage.
2. I also switched out the relays. That didn't help either.
3. There's no moisture, dirt, etc. in the housings. I checked all the wires/unplugged and plugged them back in. Clean as a whistle.
4. New Battery as of Jan. 21, 2010 (the same day the headlight failed again) So it's not the battery.\
5. It comes back on when I turn the lights off and on again.
Any suggestions as to what to check next? Again this has only happened 3/4 times in the past 3/4 months. The headlight works 99 percent of the time. The passenger's side has never failed.

yea chances are its the ballast. my drivers side blew out last year after flickering for a few weeks, and i wasn't about to pay 500 bucks at the stealer ship for an oem replacement.
so i bought an aftermarkt hid kit on ebay (80 bucks), and custom installed it.
it contained: 2 waterproof ballasts and igniters , and two d2c 5000k bulbs. i drilled a hole in the back of the headlights unit (the cover with the t20s tq bit) and ran the wire into it, attached the new ballasts right on top of the old one. sealed the hole with silicon. then spliced the wiring harness.
its been almost a year and i have no problems with it, bulbs work and no leaks. i use them everyday.
pm me, if you want more information on my custom install.

Thanks for the help. The headlight has gone off only about 4/5 times so far. Always comes back on when I turn the switch off and on again. It's probably the Ballast. I'm going to wait a little longer and see what happens.

yea wait a bit longer, mine would be out one day and be on for the next week, then be out for 2 hours, it took over a mouth before it died.
you could try taking apart the ballast and try to restore the pcb circuit board inside of it, i think there is a simple diy in the diy section. what happens is water finds it way into the ballast and slowly destroys the circuit board. all you do is spray some suff on the circuit board to dry it out.
