Driver Side Low Beam Issue

My driver side bulb recently turned purple, so I bought a pair of D2R's and went to replace them. I put the driver side one in and it would work until placing the assembly back into place. We struggled with it going on and off for awhile before giving up. We did notice a slight buzz/hum when we'd hook it up. I took it into a shop this morning and they called and said they thought it was the ignitor. They recommended I picked up a used one to test and see if that's it. Does anyone know if this sounds correct? Or would it be the ballast? I'm not good with the whole car electronics so any help would be greatly appreciated!

Also, while taking the front bumper off the plastic radiator cover plate cracked in half, the clips still hold it in, but it looks like crap now. Does this need to be in here or can I just take it out completely?

Hey Djbuttolph, since ya got the bumper off,try swapping sides. Does there seem to be any moisture...if so, that'll kill the ignitor/ballast. You can try another used one, good luck on finding a good one at a reasonable price.

You may want to consider replacing the entire HID original units with the newer waterproof kits available to replace both sides for under $100.

see the 10 current threads below this one re: lights

www.hidextra.com look up by car type = 35 watt hid kit $59
look for coupons online too
suggest 5000k bulbs for best color to see the road with

kit has 2 new micro sized ballast- waterproofed connectors and parts
a new heavy duty wire from ballast to bulb with ignitor built inline,,slick setup

our HID systems are dinosaurs and prone to moisture related failures
if you get moisture probs inside headlight housing lens = ballast are toast
they sit below the drain hole!!!! de de deeeeeeeee

once you get problems- get the `kit` and make it all new!~
you cant beat $59 and 10% off,,,
well maybe you can find junk, but these really are good parts with wholesale type pricing

used parts suffer the same failures,,junkyard is no good for this

upper plastic cover to rad broken?,,mine is laying on a workbench for 3-4 years now
If ambient air temps are high, its good idea to use plastic repair glue and reinstall panel
the thing helps trap and direct airflow thru rad
never been an issue to me,,but you have been advised

ck the color and maker of your current new bulbs
what K are they? over 6000 is not good for seeing with

hidextra will sell you 2 ballast and 2 wires, without bulbs too
but for the price and having a spare set of HID bulbs- worth the few bucks

Thanks for all the help guys, there is some condensation in the lights by the way. I got an OEM ignitor for a decent price off ebay so we'll see if that helps. If not I'll go with a kit from hidextra

it wont last-
you have moisture inside the headlight lens =
that drips out directly onto ballast- which is connected to the ignitor!
