Does NON Sportshift users have Tranny Problem

Hello
Im a new proud owner of a 03 TL.
I was wondering if everybody here who have Tranny problem also use the sport shift on a regular basis?
I love driving my TL but never use the sport shift fearing that it is the problem of the tranny.

So if we can have a quick census here that would be great.

About me.
I bought my TL for 12000 this summer with 29000 miles on it. It had one owner. I got it in Louisiana so it might be flooded, but it is running great! I actually drove the car to Cali. So far no problem except for an annoying squeak sound when i hit a bump with a passenger on the seat. If you guys know the problem help me out.

My impression from reading this forum is that the use of the sport shift mode is not a big factor in the transmission failures. And you might not want to baby your transmission if that might extend its life beyond the warranty coverage.

Did you check to see if your TL is among the 2003 TLs that have the 7 year/100,000 miles extended warranty on the transmission?

This question has been asked before, mutiple times. Sport shifting has no affect on the tranny.

Problems are known regardless of use.

I think sportshilft will have a factor in the transmission failures if you use it in a racing way ...imagine rolling at 60mph in 5th gear in auto and suddenly you want to sportshilft
the transmis to 3th gear ... how stressful it is for your 3th gear .!!!!!!

Whats that have to do with it? You floor it it automatically down shifts. You put it in SS and you control what gear and how long it stays in that gear, either way it downshifts to that gear. SS isnt a specail thing. The ecu tells the tranny when to shift. When in SS it just tells the ecu when you want it to, but the ecu still sends the signal out.

This is the kind of post that starts rumors.

Sportshifting DOES NOT hasten the well known failure of our trannys.

But the more you spend your time on the 3th gear red zone (6500 rpm ) the more you put stress to the 3th gear plate ....especially our 3th gear plate material is not strong enought to withstand the abuse .......
And i believe it's true if you have a 6 speed manual too ... only that the material is better
made and design ......
