Complete front end rebuild... then I saw this. Anyone??

I had my front end out yesterday for a complete overhaul... it was time. New OEM upper control arm assemblies, New lower control arm bushings (OEM), Moog lower ball joints, OEM sway bar bushings, Moog sway bar end links, and OEM radius rod bushings. 3 hours later... and done. I have the Acura Service manual on disc, so i used it for all torque specs, and utilized all the great write ups and DIYs on here. You guys rock!

My question is this.... when i had my rotors off (OEM replacements a year ago), i noticed 2 things.
1) A nickel sized black "hotspot??" on the back of the rotor
2) a BB sized (3 mm) hole/chunk missing on the front!! WTH!!

Anyone seen this?
Recommendations?
Can I turn it with the hole??

Ive been working on cars for years and have never seen this....

If the brake lathe is anything like a real lathe the pit shouldn't matter. Just a bit of interrupted cut for a second. But again I'm a machinist I'm not familiar with brake lathes.

Just don't use a carbide lathe tool on the brake lathe. It's very brittle. Maybe use high speed steel. And pay attention to the finish vs. rpm.

But I'm going off of my knowledge of a real lathe as well. I've never used a brake lathe.

A brake lathe should be able to take care of both. If the hole/chunk is 3mm deep, I'd forget about it, as you'll remove too much material to re-use the rotor. It's so small, it shouldn't affect braking at all.

New rotors are gonna be <50 each at Napa or online using Centrics. Pretty easy fix-replacement

OEM is pretty much crap. Are you looking for blank rotors or for some performance rotors? EBC has both, which I am using. Dimpled and slotted on the front and blanks on the rears. Both are holding up well thus far, just San Francisco hills are harsh on brakes overall. Brembo blanks should be great as well.

EBC's greenstuff pads are great daily driver pads as well. If you want more stopping power, I've heard great things about the RB ET300 or 500. Most likely will be my next set of pads after my current set is done.
