Compatible Transmission 03 type s

Hey All!

I've been doing some research and as from what I could tell, the transmission everyone suggests is 3rd gen Odyssey or 06-07 Accord V6. Does anyone know what other transmissions are compatible? For example, would a TL-P 02 transmission fit on the type s?

Thanks ahead for all the input!

Anthony

Get a06-07 Honda accord v6 transmission. The failure rate on those were much less than ours. Don't get a second gen tl you will only run into te same problem

Will it fit? Yes. Will it be easy for you? No, reason being is it has a different ecu that is made for a four speed transmission, so you will need a new ecu and new wire harnesses.

Thanks for the response. I'm not too concerned with reliability and here's the reason: my buddy has an 02 TL-p sitting at his junkyard and is thinking of purchasing my 03 type s, but wants to make sure he could flip the car and resale it. Just wanted to make the trans on the base is compatible on the type s. I already rebuilt my trans twice. $900 1 yr warranty and the second time was still under warranty. I'm getting rid of it and not worrying about keeping it, but don't want my friend to be stuck with it if you know what I mean.

Thanks again!

do I really need to replace wire harnesses ?

Has anyone tried to swap tl to accord 07 tranny and ecu from 2003 tl on acura tl 99, w/o new wire harnesses ?

In that case all the ones you listed are compatible

Nobody has really done it. They either got theirs rebuilt or they swapped to a manual because of all the work involved.

it is a direct swap for a 2000-2003 acura tl. the problem is you have a 99 which is basically a completely different car than the others even though it looks the same. The 99s also had much more reliable transmission than the five speed automatics. I also forgot you would need a new gauge cluster shifter assembly and a few other things.

LIke he said, the 99 is the odd ball. It has ALL different wiring, different ecu different shifter, etc.. You have to change a LOT of different things to get it to work properly due to the 4 speed vs 5 speed differences.

ECU - engine control unit ?
do i need to replace all wire harnesses or just for engine ?

list of what needs to be replaced:

1. Tranmission (Accord 06-07 V6)
2. ECU (there are three of them here http://www.acurapartswarehouse.com/e...abin-room.html
  • 37820-P8E-A53
  • 37820-P8E-L53
  • 37820-P8E-L54
3. Wire harnesses (do you know part # ?)
4. Gauge cluster (necessary ?)
5. Shifter assembly (necessary if not using sport shift ?)

my tranny almost gone, slips as hell. I don't believe its more reliable than 5 speed. After first rebuild it was good for about six months, shop refused to fix it under warranty coz "it was still shifting".

Where can I find how to replace ECU ?

Lol still shifting?? What a crap shop. The 4 speed really isn't that much more reliable to me. My 01 odyssey trans went just north of 100k. If you're interested in 6 speed swap now would be a good time. Considering the work it'd take to put the 5 speed automatic in, it'd be pretty close to even and if you enjoy manual trans I bet it's well worth it. As soon as I can afford it I hope to do the swap.

If you use the odyssey or Honda transmission. You have to swap the oil warmer/cooler filter assembly on the top, range switch, and 3and4 gear pressure switch harness. If it is a base model you have to loop the power steering rack.

Nice I started reconsidering the 6spd swap agin for my car. However with the value of our cars now and the near wrecks I avoid on a weekly basis changed my mind. Id hate to invest all that money and someone total my car a week later. Now I'm saving up for another car and keep this one as a daily driver. Ive been looking at a couple of 4g tl shawd with a 6spd. Either that or a cts-v if I can get one for a good deal. Good luck with the second house.

Unfortunately my bank wont give out a loan for anything over 7 years old so finding a low mileage 06 or newer CTS-V in my area and within my budget has been difficult. But hopefully one turns up soon

Yeah banks are difficult that's why I'm saving up as much as I can so I can pay cash for the whole thing or finance as little as I can.

IMHO i wouldnt get a 06-07 cts-v (gen 1), You would want the 2nd gen 09+.

I agree that's the one I've been trying to look at but used ones don't last in my area.

It would be a lot better to wait for it. Supercharged, much better looking, and better suspension, and brakes iirc

I wish. Just a nicer area. Kids are too young and I work too many hours to get a house by a lake yet. I'm still young though. 10-12 years one will be in college and one in HS and I'll be 10 years from retiring 15 tops. I will look then. For now I just want a nicer area and bigger garage. If not then I want a 6 speed swap. I will know by summer which one I get.

Find a used 99 tl tranny in a junk yard or get yours rebuilt. The 4speed was much more reliable but over time every transmission will give out. All you can do is keep the fluid changed yearly

You wont, but most offer a warranty of like 30 days. Your only other option like stated is to buy or have yours rebuilt.
