coilover stuck

time to lower the tein basics. just wanted to lower the fronts, since the backs are right where i want them.

tried twice, tuesday morning, and wednesday morning - couldn't do it. i was able to lower the front left shock after using a lot of WD-40. then when it came to the other side, the front right, i wasn't able to get it loose. this was tuesday morning.

after hours, i gave up and decided to start again wednesday. i used TONS of WD-40 hosed it down with water and was able to get the bottom loose, but the top wouldn't budge. any tips or tricks?

Try heating up the two rings with a hairdryer. Sounds like they're frozen (not temperature).

Make sure you get in the threads underneath the adjustment rings with a hard bristle toothbrush and clean them out really well.

Clean the threads thoroughly.

That, and the spring is probably putting a lot of pressure on the top ring. Have a buddy squeeze the spring. That should take some pressure off.

Have a friend squeeze the spring. The compressors probably wouldn't fit, because the coils are pretty narrow on Tein springs.

okay, an update.

tried everything at home - no progress. went to my mechanic...

he couldn't do it either after using the above techniques plus taking a flat screwdriver and a deadblow to try to move it... didn't work either. so my last option was to take it apart and whatever happens, he'll only charge me 1hr labor which is cool.

so we take it apart , took the spring off, and whoa nelly, under the rubber and on the bottom part of the spring, there was a really thick, i mean really thick layer of salt and dirt all around above the ring. no wonder nothing moved. so , okay all we have to do is chisel the salt and dirt off... nope. after chiseling all of it off and spraying WD-40 and cans of PB Blaster, the thing still wouldn't move.

so we clamp the damn thing and used a pipe wrench. nope. that thing didn't even budge a little. after 2.5 hrs, and after looking at how bruised the ring is and how chipped the teeth are, we decided that the only way of lowering it would be to cut the ring off and get a new one..

so i need a new ring.. does tein sell just the rings? maybe they'll warantee this? anyway, i'm calling Excelerate today to see what he can do. i bought it from him sometime last summer...
