Code P0505 HELP!

As stated I pulled a P0505 Code from my car and have searched for the problem.
I see that replacing the Idle control motor is the solution, however the dealer is telling me that its part of the throttle body and I need to replace the entire thing. Is this true? first of all and if not can someone get me the part # so I can get this thing myself and install it...BTW 2002 TL-S is the car.

Thanks in advance, Jeff

You don't need the whole part unless there is another problem associated with it. The IAC Valve the the one you need in red circle.

If its the IAC (which thats what the code is leaning to) id take yours off and try cleaning it. If that doesnt help just replace the IAC valve. You dont need the whole TB for that. You would need the whole TB for the TPS sensor

soooo... I first cleaned the IAC Valve still acting up... then replaced the IAC Valve still acting up... (now I'm pissed) Do I need to replace the entire throttle body now cause it sounds like the TPS? And still getting the P0505 code as well.
Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks, Jeff

another update... when I start the car it idles fine, right at 750rpm with no load.
as soon as I turn the climate control on (with a/c on), then put in gear, as soon as I put back to neutral or park the engine revs uncontrolably between 1100 and 1500 rpm and this is after replacing the IAC Valve

HELP!! Thanks, Jeff

Hey Aameghoo, more info would help !

How many miles, what is it actually doing ? Is the CEL on ?
Any recent PM or attempts at cleaning the EGR passageways....intake....tb....iac valve....etc, etc.

When was the last tune-up ? How is the coolant level ? Does it only act up when the AC is on ?

I had the same issue as mezzerTL-S reported in November 2007. Code P0505 and unstable idle speed, cleaned IACV, code still appeared, replaced IACV, still code and after start and short run, engine would bounce between 1,000 and 1,500 rpm. Gave up and took it to my mechanic. He said the issue was that the idle adjusting screw (sits on top of the throttle body) was too far out (not something I had adjusted). After he put it in correct position and test drove for a good while - no more problem. I have a 99 TL with nearly 178,000 miles on it - have had it for the last five months and 6,000 miles.

I got a DTC P0505 after doing a valve adjustment and cleaning the throttle body plus the intake manifold. After getting the DTC I removed the intake checked the gasket cleaned the throttle body again and cleaned the IACV. installed everything with the right torque. checked for leaks with carb cleaner.
Still getting P0505. The only difference now is its not bouncing from 1500-2000 RPMs in P/N and 1500 RPM in D/R it went down and is now bouncing at 1000-1200 RPMs in P/N and is at 1000 RPM in D/R. The engine has plenty of power when I hit the gas but I hear a low rumble when its idling in D or R.

Check all the vaccum hoses and connections. Also make sure that your air filter box is secure.

try a PM to the members who posted with the problem, better chance of finding them than they are looking for this old thread!

what exactly are YOUR symptoms, much has been learned over the years!
Maintenance done recently? egr passage inside manifold cleaned per diy?
Car MILES? Codes? specific rpm jumping range or what is happening? hot cold warm?

I replaced my IACV.. checked for vacuum leaks but couldn't find any.. solved it last night ... it ended up being air in my cooling system.. was causing the rpms to surge and idle high. reset my ECU and bled the system and it works like a charm now.. was originally getting P0505 code

do you know why there was air? TB removed for IACV?
that little bit of loss from the small hoses will get you!
So many things will go crazy when the coolant level is down just a bit....

Fsttyms1- pls add this to DIY code list P0505 may be air in rad
