Cleaned my headlight lenses too

I've also cleaned and polished my headlight lenses. I used the 3M kit and it really works pretty well but they've changed the kits from when I've previously used them because they've taken out the 3000 grit paper (unless mine was just not quality-control checked). I had some left over from an earlier job so I was able to work it a little more. Anyway, they were pretty dull when I bought the car and I've been able to restore them to better condition. I'm sure there are other ways to get this job accomplished but I used the 3M kit.

time to break out the blue painters tape to mask off the surrounding area and grab the drill and buffing pads, mine look bad

Note- plastic gets HOT when buffed - see: MELT, Use spray bottle of clean water as you work

Absolutely, ensure that you ALWAYS keep the sandpaper and polishing pads WET!! OF course, this is mentioned in the instructions as well, but I also kept a bucket of water beneath my work area so I could keep dunking the pad to keep it wet. Definitely keep it wet. Not damp. WET. If you wind up not using a kit, make sure you use WET/dry-type sandpaper and don't use a grit below 500-600 and, as well, make sure you go up in several steps to about a 3000 grit before you then begin using a polishing compound. You need to use the higher grit papers to make your surface smoother before you begin the polishing phase. It's really easy to do and makes a world of difference.
