Changing rear door side arm rest, how?

Hi,

My passenger side rear door armrest seems to have separated and become out of form. I've tried gluing it back but it keeps pulling away. Would appreciate your tips on how i can go about removing this arm rest and replacing with a new one.

Attach is photo of the problem. I wonder if anyone's had this as well. No one ever sits back there but for some reason, this has occurred.

It seems the arm rest itself has become de-form, and has pulled away from the flat plastic window control pad.

Is this arm rest part of the entire interior door panel or is a separate piece, and how does one remove this to swap out?

Thank you in advance.

This is a fairly common problem on the second generation TLs and there are many threads discussing this. Try searches with the terms "armrest" and "glue". There is a great thread somewhere with a step by step "how-to" for a DIY repair involving glue. If I recall correctly, that thread was on the CL forum. (The CL can have the exact same problem.)

If I can find the thread again, I'll post it here.

OK, here's the DIY repair link that I mentioned above:

And here's another thread on this issue from the CL forum:

Bob,

Thank you for the links. They were very helpful and i've now glued back the armrest by following the great tips in the links.

For everyone, when you take out the two screws, one little one behind the door lever, and one bigger one tucked away inside the armrest, there's nothing else holding the interior panel aside from the clips inside it. Starting from the edges of the panel, i just slowly pried the panel away from the door. You should hear the clips pop as they disengage from the door.

I used gorilla glue the armrest together. The design seems rather poor as there was very little material holding the foam part of the armrest to the plastic frame. It was going to pull away eventually, and mine did. This glueing job actually will make this much stronger than before.
