Change torque converter w/ transmission fluid

Do you suppose to change the torque converter when you change your transmission fluid? A few transmission shop has this service, they called "Transmission Fluid Exchange". They change the fluid and the torque converter. By the way, what does the torque converter do anyway?

They don't change the torque converter. They flush out all the fluid, including what is in the converter. In short, don't have this service done. It's bad for our tranmissions. Do the 3X3 fluid change. Do a search and you will find how easy it is to do yourself.

2012 acura TL SHAWD - At 2200 miles I've been told I need a new Torque converter - Trans slips @ 30 MPH in and out of 3th and 4th gear. Dealship is replacing. I hope this does srcrew up the rest of the components. Is this a difficult process ?

2012 w/2200 miles?

Clearly that car is under warranty, let them do their thing and dont worry about it. They shouldnt mess it up, but you have plenty of time to go after them if they do!

Just an FYI - You are in the wrong forum (this one is for 99-03 TL)

rt you are in the wrong area,, but
the torque convertor is inside the transmission housing and connects trans to engine- its not hard to change
they remove your trans and tc--install new part- install trans- refill fluid- drive away
You will be fine
Please post this in correct car area- so others know of potential issue with their trans

NEVER EVER use a trans shop for a TL fluid change
their machine is not kind to our trans AND it uses the WRONG FLUID
can stop your trans from working very quickly!!

Acura does have a machine thats safe for us, and they use a method we call `the accord method` as seen on youtube- for changing it with engine running and shifting thru the gears
its a full change and gets all the old fluid out of t/c in the process
The 3qts x3 times with short drive between- using gears etc- to get old fluid out of tc and selenoids..pushing it to the drain

old and new fluid mixes slightly while doing this,,so its not perfect,
but easy diy for the person who can change their engine oil,,
same process, just no screw on filter
There is an external filter we can change, and shift selenoids we can remove to clean
