Cel P0122

Hey guys, I havent posted on here in a while , but I do read quite a bit of yours.
I have gathered some information on my problem and have researched many threads. I am at a point now where I pretty much know whats to be done, but just going to document the problem for others to research at a later date.

2000 Acura TL
103,000 miles

CEL Code: P0122
TP Circuit Low Input

ECU Codes:
https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...ighlight=codes

accurate symptom description from thread:
https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...=Circuit+Input

"3. Lost TPS position. Check for P0122 TPS Sensor Circuit Low, and on the DATA page check the % figure for the TPS. Static the TPS should show 16% approx. If the reading is lower, then the EECV has lost synch with the TPS. Fuelling will be poor, idle effected by lurching or surging. On autos, you may also notice that the gears are being selected with a thump, both when stationary and on the road. If the DTC and the percentage reading is seen then force a resynch by disconnecting the battery for half a minute. Don't forget the radio codes before you do this, however. After the initial poor running while the running parameters are relearned, the engine idle and autobox changes will be greatly improved."

Originally I thought it was because my Battery was completely hammered with corrosion. It looked horrible and I could tell it was on the fritz because dash lights would dim slightly when the radiator fans kicked on. Anyway replaced the Battery, had to make new terminals because the old ones were just corroded all to hell. Only had the new battery for a day and the CEL is still present. From the threads I have read it seems that it is a geeked sensor inside the throttle body and the whole throttle body has to be replaced. That is pretty much my next step. I dont want to drive around too long with poor gas mileage and the occasional uneasy shifts. So I looked into some OEM dealers on the web. In posts I read dealerships are charging about $500? I wasnt quite sure that was including the labor or not, but its just a throttle body i can install it myself. Here is a couple Cheap vendors I found.

Now if you guys dont mind checking this one out. It looks like I need part #9 and i will change the gasket too .. so it looks like i need #5 I am guessing that #6 is an optional one
for the optional spacer ?

Any input you guys can offer I greatly appreciate it.

Yep, part 9 is the TB. Installation is verry easy. you will need the gaskets as well. 6 is the gasket.

Replaced the throttle body, Reset the ECU and now all is good. Here are some tips for anyone attempting to perform this maintenance.

Need:
New Throttle body assembly
Both gasket on either side of the spacer
possibly a new clamp for the intake tube connecting to the throttle body
metric sockets/wrenches
Philips Screw driver
Plyers

I didnt remove my airbox. Just didnt feel like it, but would have been easier. I disconnected all sensors, and hoses from the TB and the intake tube. The clamp on the intake tube/TB side has this screw with a small head and its been getting hot for 100k and of course it stripped the head. I had to dremel this screw out.. and luckily i had a screw the same size to replace it and coule reuse the clamp.. otherwise youll need a new clamp... Yanked the intake tube out. took the 2 bolts/2nuts off the throttle body .. and it took a while to break its seal .. i ended up using a rag to get more of a complete grip around it after getting it apart .. you will need to scrap the old gaskets off. The spacer is screwed to the back of the thottle body so youll have to seperate them after you get it off the intake manifold.. I didnt have anything good to get the gasket off easy.. like aircraft stripper ... so i just used a dull knife and tried not to scratch the surfaces much.. lined the new gaskets up and tightened the spacer back onto the TB and IM .. and basically did the reverse of the dissasemble. I think it took me a total of about 4hrs .. but the two time consumers were scraping the old gasket off and having to dremel that one screw out

Hope the information helps

Just want to say thanks for all the valuable info on this thread. Replaced my throttle body this week after about 2 months of living with the P0122 code and the TL bucking like a crazed bronco every now and then.

I initially thought the tranny crapped out again when it was hard shifting but after the dealer checked it out, the tranny looked fine and the code indicated the issue being the TPS. After several resets and TB cleaning, the problem persisted and was actually getting worse. TB replacement did the trick.

As Zilverz indicated, the items to get (with part #s) are:
1. Throttle body assembly (16410-P8E-A01)
2. Gasket between TB and spacer (16177-P8F-A01)
3. Gasket between spacer and manifold (16176-P8F-A01)

Installation was pretty straight forward (instructions in previous posts were excellent). My lower coolant hose required a lot of coaxing but everything else came off pretty easy. Throttle body had 2 upper nuts and 2 lower bolts to remove. Torque setting for these are 16 lb-ft when reinstalling.

Some pics of the of the replacement:

Old and New.

Throttle body removed from manifold.

New throttle body installed.
