Cd Player Problem. Help!

Hi all,

So when I put a burnt cd (havn't tried regular cd) in my 2000 TL, it takes roughly 10-30 seconds for the song to start playing. Before the song plays, there is a weird clicking sound coming from the cd player (not out of the speakers.) Does anyone know what could possibly be the problem, or what I could do about it?

Thanks in advance

Welcome to AZ

I would try an original CD to see if it is just the burnt CD or if it is something else.

The 10-13 seconds problem you are experiencing is a common problem on old TLs. You can search the forums to find out more information on this matter as it has been discussed quiet a bit. But a couple brief solutions our members have found are getting a newer TL unit (ebay, etc). Members have also had more luck with certain blank CD brands at certain lower speeds. Hope this helps. But like I said before, troubleshoot it and try an original CD and report back so we know if it's just that burnt CD you tried first.

thanks for the response,

i tried a regular cd and it worked perfectly...its just the burnt cd's that are the problem

is there any solution to this problem or should I take it in to the dealership and have them install a new cd player?

Thanks

The dealership is probably your most expensive/overpriced option.

Search around the forums as there have been different options discussed. Off the top of my head, I would suggest I few other options besides going to the dealership.

Screw blank CDs, and just use an iPod (or any mp3 players) and use a $20.00 tape cassette adapter to play it through your current head unit. I use this and it works fine.

You can screw blank CDs and get an integrated iPod connection like the biltsafe direct wire. Many members suggest this accessory but it is over $100.00 but worth it.

If you don't have an iPod, you can get a stock head unit from a 02-03 online for over a few hundred bucks. But this plays blank CDs and has a 6 CD changer.

If you don't have an iPod, you can search around and find out what blank CDs brands people have had more luck with.

As I said search around or let some others chime in. Hope this helps.

I've noticed for my 01, some brands of cd's work and some don't. I've read that even after a while though, they might all stop working. If you want to keep the stock look, I'd swap to an 02-03 unit. That is what I plan to do.
