car is shaking

and it isnt because of the music. my son bought a used 2000 acura tl and it is gonna fall apart if you guys dont guide me. i am a do it my damn self kinda gal and well my boy says the car started shaking real bad and a bad smell came in thru the vents. DOA? i think its got to do with the spark plugs, i also need to replace the thermostat, where the heck is it? id appreciate any help. thanks

please give the conditions of when it shakes.
does it shake at idle?
does it shake at speed?
does it shake during braking?

what are the conditions?!

Might be misfiring badly judging by the smell. That could cause the engine to shake a lot if that's the case. What kind of smell is it though? Is the car shaking while it's running or only when it's driving and is the check engine light on?

Check your motor mounts first to verify none are broken. To eliminate spark plug/coil pack you can take engine cover off and disconnect the connector one at a time to see if symptoms change. If nothing changes for each one then you have either a bad spark plug or coil pack for that cylinder. Then you can swap around coil pack to see if problem follows. Same with spark plug. But could be lots of things but those are easy ones first.
