caliper piston bad?

changed the front pads today, and noticed that the driver side boot around the piston is shot. I am assuming that the caliper will eventually fail due to this?

Yes, it will allow debris in and ruin the seals.. Mght want to look into getting that repaired/replaced.

I didn't know I could repair or replace it, I thought I would need to replace the entire caliper assembly

I don't think that you can buy caliper components seprately but I've only looked on acuraautomotiveparts.org. You might check some other places though. One question I would have is can you replace only one caliper or do you have to replace both if one is bad? Just wondering if it's the same as pads or not.

you can replace just one as long as it's like for like. it shouldn't be an issue. if you upgrade then yes, replace both.

when my friend's legend needed a new caliper we found the rebuild kits at autozone (special order though). you may want to call them and check. otherwise you can probably find a caliper on ebay or some online store somewhere.
