A/C compressor question

Hi All,
New to forum, and hoping i could get some advice guidance from the experienced mechanics/DIYers here on the site. We have a 2000 TL and the a/c has "went out" (happened about a yr ago, but as it's not a primary vehicle we haven't used it much). Anyhow, now that it's somewhat 'cool' outside I want to try and attack the issue- I was able to gather the below:

-vents blow ambient temperature when set at 60 and blows warm when set to 89
-the fans (behind the radiator) turns on when a/c is turned on and will turn off when pressing 'a/c off' button
-seems like the compressor runs constantly whether the heating/cooling system is on or off (doesn't matter if a/c button is set on or off), and runs even if I pull the 'MG CLUTCH RELAY' (assume that is the clutch relay) - the inner part of the pulley spins and I haven't seen it stopped unless the engine is off.
-using one of those cheap (fix-in-a-can) gauges it indicates 'green zone' when attached to the L -line
-I removed the plastic cowl under the car is this is what the front of the compressor looks like.

I didn't think this was normal for the compressor to spin constantly. I don't have the fittings for a manifold style gauge so not unable to get numbers in that dept.
I don't detect any apparent sounds that sound weird so unable to give much info there as well.

Anyone ever experience this as well? Advice/guidance much appreciated.

Thank you!
MD

without proper gauges, you’re shooting in the dark when it comes to troubleshooting air-conditioning issues

Got it. So can you recommend the proper equipment I would need to troubleshoot, or is this something you’d just not mess with and drive with the windows down?

OK, I will point out the elephant in the room... Just look at the picture of the compressor!!!

Ther whole center bearing section is SHOT! The outer area is off-center with the hub!!!

Do not drive the car like that... You NEED to get that fixed... The compressor can sieze and throw the belt. That means no alternator and it could take out the power steering belt in the process.
