hi guys I own a tsx and was looking to purchase a 02 tl-s with 260,000 km for my wife. it is really cheap and it had a new tranny put in recently, how good is the engines on these? any common problems I should be looking for

 

engines are great- as long as the timing belt- water pump is done every 100kmiles you are good,,rad condition to be ckd,,recent probs with those aging are showing up here

with fresh trans you are golden!! thats our biggest issue

have a mechanic look over the brakes- suspension etc, that can run up a big bill if brake calipers and rotors are shot

there is a prob with egr system clogging- we diy clean it- makes car idle rough and many techs cant figure it out

motor mounts- front and rear are fluid filled AND vacuum boosted so WHEN they fail it makes another running prob,, as well as broken mount
front and passenger side are most common and last about 70kmiles --front then fails--often replaced with trans because its easy to do then

 

why is it cheap
some of these are overheated badly, wp job gets done then gaskets are found to be blown and warped the heads
Plus we have interferance engine = timing belt breaks while running = bent valves = see: warped heads
car gets sold off cheap
if you can DIY those are no big deal to replace
