beat by a mini van full of kids
Wonderin' if you guys know whats up with this?
When I accelerate slowly my car happily cruises along at 100 mph, but when I need to accelerate quickly to pass a car it acts like theres some kind of restrictor or something it just cuts out... I actually had a mini van full of kids laughing at me, I couldnt get around a mini van that was doing 50 mph fast enough to pass it!!

I'm thinking check the plastic intake between the airbox and the engine. Any cracks or holes? Just a guess but if the MAF sensor is getting a bad reading because the car is sucking air the sensor doesn't detect, it's problems.
damn those minivans and load of kids.....has this ever happened to your car before......my car goes 130 before it resticts and i regularly drive on the expressway doing 80-90+ and it never gives me shit to go faster.....
Oh my ! oh my ! I think you were at higher gear. Did you try put in sport shift ? It the mini van was doing 50mph, you might be doing the same speed and I think 3rd gear would be the best geat at that speed. 2nd gear will make the engine scream.

We don't have MAF sensors, we have MAP sensors.
I think the problem is more than likely a broken bypass valve actuator.
How to test if it's broken:
Have some one start the car and rev it (in park) above 3k rpm while you look at the end of the drivers side IM. you should see a cable pull a sproket on the end. If it doesn't open, the actuator back behind the rear cylinder head cover is broken.
