Battery Wires / Terminals

2000 TL

It appears my battery is completely hammered. It is old and corrosion on the terminals is extreme. I am actually surprised the car still starts. Anyway, my questions are:

1) The terminals appear to be pretty ate up and need to be replaced. Should i buy new terminals and then put them on the cut back wires or should i go ahead and get new power and ground wires. Im not quite sure how long they are or how easy they are to replace is why im asking.

2) Is there not a method to obtain the security code from an already working stereo? I cant locate a sticker with the 5 digit code anywhere on the vehicle. The deck works fine right now, if there is not a method to get the code from a working deck, well that is a damn shame.

Thanks

Have you tried using a baking soda vinigar mix to try to clean the terminals or a actual cleaner?

if you dont have teh card with the code on it or a sticker PM loud_wispers, he will ask you for a little info and will look it up for you

Well the terminals look horrible... corrosion built up about as thick as a standard size marshmellow on both terminals .. the terminals appear to have lost some contact area due to this, but I Will try your cleaning solution and maybe ill just replace the battery if all appears well

thanks for the info on the radio code.. we will see if i end up needing it .. gonna try the jumper to keep power trick i read in another post.

if corrosion is that bad then replace battery as there very well may be a good size leak. Replacing ground wires may be a good idea because if corrosion is that bad I bet if you cut a foot down one of those wires it will be baby blue chalk shit. replacing the grounds isn't that hard I did mine in 1.5hrs and put on some very nice terminals. do a search on the "Big 3" and do that upgrade and get an optima red or yellow top battery and some tsunami gold terminals and you are good to go probably for the life of your car or a long ass time.
