Another transmission question???????????

im going on 49k and i have done alot of research on the whole transmission issues. i can feel the hesitation and jerks between gears, esp around second and the occasional random down shift. and it takes longer than for the transmission to actually "engage" and begin to drive along with a "clunk" noise as i shift from N to D.... i know the oil jet has been installed before i became the second owner. has anyone had their tranny replaced before the major tranny blowing out by having acura check it out, and if they would charge me if i had them look at it and it not be anything.

should i be worried, or is this normal. thanks in advanced guys....

2003 tl-p original tranny by the way.

To check a vehicle in case of the transmision failure...it should be free. I work at a dealership. The service department will get paid for the job to be completed whether if its from you or Acura themselves. They will be honest to replace it, but they have to see that it is evident to begin with.

register your car by VIN number at www.acura.com ownership experience
thats the warranty info computer and will tell you if part of the 7/109 vin cars or if you will need special goodwill replacement.

The service writer takes everything you say and puts it in 1/2 a sentance that starts with
Customer states sluggish gear shift
Customer states noise when shifting

So the best thing you can do is make a complete list of symptoms and leave in the car for the tech- tech will pull the computer codes if any- and drive the car looking for known symptoms- they do want the work- acura pays them to replace the trans

You may also need a front and possibly side motor mount- thats very common and cheaper to do with the trans already removed

Talk directly with the Service MANAGER and say- "keep it a few days to make it act up if you need- the wife is terrified of carrying the kids in the car now"

Where in Ownerlink will it show the transmission information? Recalls? I'm looking to get an 03 Type-S and would like to make sure I don't get one with a possible bum transmission. Thanks.

First you have to register, then you need to have the vin. It wont tell you if the car is one that has a possible defective trans. What you would be looking for is one that is INCLUDED in the extended warranty.

I have some of the TLs registered with the VINs, so that part is done. I don't see anything anywhere about any of them being included in an extended warranty.

The only 2003 tl type s tht are covered by the exteded warranty are the cars that were built early in the 2003 model year. i can't remmember the exact vin # cutoff but know that if the 03 type s has the final 5 numbers fo the vin less than 19000, it will be covered. All of the 2002 type s are covered by ther extended warranty. I hope that helps.

Thanks, that does help. All of the ones I'm looking at are above 19000.

Once you enter the vin, click the "Recall" tab. It will show information. If its covered it will say open or closed

thanks for the feedback. ive had nothing but problems with the last time i went to the dealership. so im gonna try another and hopefully they can take better care of me. i had a huge issue with them... they wouldnt cover my blown cv axle because i replaced my brakes and rotors. so there is an aftermarket axle.. do you think theyll throw a fuss and deny my claim since it wasnt installed by acura or isnt an acura part. the funny thing is, before i purchased the car, acura replaced that same axle just a couple years before... but thats a whole other story.

so is this the signs of a problem or should i stick it out for now and see how it goes.... im def gonna talk to the manager off the bat. and im gonna be honest with him, i really dont want the tranny to lock up while im going 80 miles an hour down the highway everyday, or being stranded. thanks guys
