Another Headlight Thread, Bear with Me :)

So I know there are tons of headlight threads already posted and I have done my best to read through them in the short amount of time I've had and learn from them without posting. However, I'm pretty much a total newbie when it comes to the HID system and a few other features my '03 TL has. Before this car, all I've had were Ford cars.

My driver-side low beam went out a few days ago and since I am a delivery driver, my initial instinct was to get the light taken care of as soon as possible to be on the roads without fear of a ticket. So I contacted the dealer but as I'm sure all of you know, they want to charge me around $200 for the bulb+labor. So I came here and read up on my options and have found almost all the info I need.

However, I still want to ask the community what the best route to go would be. I obviously intend to change the bulbs in pairs, but with all the talk about HID kits I was wondering if I should go ahead and get a kit or just replace the bulbs and carry on. I'm not too savvy so the idea of splicing wires or drilling holes in the assembly kind of puts me off from getting the kit.
If I just change the bulbs, would I possibly deal with ballast issues soon or will they keep me going for quite a while longer? I'm sure I could figure everything out but for now I need the quickest/cheapest option.

Sorry for the long post and for repeating some of the things I posted in another thread. Thanks for any help

Also, most of the kits I've seen are D2R/D2S. I know I need D2Rs so I've been weary of getting a kit and ending up with D2S. I checked hidextra.com but their kits are universal so I'm not quite sure what I would end up with. I am tempted to just order a pair of D2Rs and just replace the bulbs.

Just replace the bulbs. No need for a whole kit.

UNLESS you have moisture inside the headlight lens issue
then you will eventually need a kit
its too simple to splice and use a file to enlarge an existing hole, anyone can do it

the d2r or s indicates the bulb base type
the ballast are universal- you just order bulbs in the style and color temp you want- 5000k

your cheapest option- 2 bulbs from hidextra
assuming no moisture in lens AND you observed a color change of bulb at startup - recently pink or purple when turned on? thats age death,
which we all are well into that useage of the lights by now

Yeah that's what happened, went pinkish/orange then flickered a few times later that night then went completely out and stayed that way.

I only see options for kits from hidextra, no bulbs without the kit. Am I not clicking the right links or something? Since I just want the bulbs I was considering checking out a different website or maybe ebay.

Yes you'd be happiest doing 5000k if youd like to go a tad bluer than stock but staying as bright as OEM. I'd aso go ahead and do the pair as it'll be added work to take all that shit a part a 2nd time just to swap the other bulb. Hell while youre in there might as well swap those dim 35watt fogs for yellow 55watt Nokya bulbs. Many have done it. Ask the guys to post up pix if you cant find any.
