Another bad transmission 03
Hi all, I came to this forum in search of help for my '03 Acura TL. I bought it off the street for $3000. I suppose I have all the symptoms of a slipping transmission: car doesn't reverse sometimes, car jitters when it shifts, and I know for a fact that it doesn't shift past 2nd because when I drive it on the highway the engine just gets louder and won't go past 70ish and the engine sounds like a ring-ring-ring-ring-ring (if I was driving standard it would sound like I'm not shifting and I maxed out the speed on the gear). It has 186,000 miles on it. But the part I'm still unclear about is that warranty. It says 7 years warranty Or 100,000 miles? Is my car still in warranty? Does this mean Acura can replace my tranny?
I went to the Acura dealer yesterday and they told me the cost would be about $3200 for the tranny and about $750 for labor. I'm not sure what I should do... I don't have the money to replace it... (but I didn't tell him about the warranty)
Also, I don't know why the fan that cools down the engine runs after I turn the car off. It ran for like an hour today and I had to turn the car back on and turn off the AC and then turn the car back off, then it just turned off. But I'm not worried about that, I'm worried more about my transmission.
Thanks all & I appreciate any help.

at 186k miles you dont have warranty. Stop driving the car, especially if its not shifting. Running the motor that high of rpm for periods of time is NOT good for it. That is probably why your fans run for so long to cool the motor. Look into some trans repair shops and see what they quote you.

Yeah you are waaaayy over the warranty. Take it to a local tranny shop and have them give you an estimate.
The fan running could be what Kris said or maybe you have a bad radiator fan switch. Again get it checked out.
