Alarm randomly goes off when parked

For the past few months my 99 TL's alarm just randomly starts going off. I got a remote starter installed just over a year ago but I don't think this problem is related. We took the car to the shop that installed the alarm and they said the wiring was fine, nothing looked out of place. He also said that it was a factory alarm, and that they didn't really do anything with it.

I've had to resort to leaving my car unlocked all the time now, if only to save it from a brick through the window if someone finally has enough of the noise. It doesn't always happen, I can leave my car, lock it and the alarm could go off in an hour or 4 hours.

I don't really care for the alarm so what option do I have in the short term to just disable it? I heard I could take out the fuse for the horn, as that's what makes the alarm noise, but I don't want to be driving around without the ability to honk (just in case).

Try disconnecting the wire connector on the hood latch. This seems to be a fairly common cause for intermittent alarm going off. Keep in mind, the alarm is inoperative with the latch disconnected, but you can lock the car. You might try cleaning the latch.

Thanks for the tip...is the wire accessible with the hood popped open or will I have to disassemble the latch or anything?

do you have your OEM radio in still? i know i had an ody come in for the same thing...turned out to be like 4 dollars in change shoved into the cd player caused the alarm to not "see" the radio from time to time causing the alarm to trigger.

if it is an aftermarket alarm they can get screwy like that and you need to take it to a dealer and have the re-flash main unit. Viper has this problem ever so often.

It's a stock alarm, not aftermarket. And yes, I have the OEM radio, but I havent even touched the CD player for a long time, I have an ipod hooked up through the cassette player.

its not the radio most likely a sensor

read this thread
https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...ht=hood+sensor

some troubleshooting tips, but to find out for the trunk its kinda hard, what i did for the trunk was disconnect it, and then it locks with the beep...

good luck

As I recall, it's just an electrical connector to unplug, but not much room to get your hand in there. I think it's a little easier if you remove the plastic trim piece.

well for me looked closer today and found out the wiring harness, male/female parts both have corrosion on 2 wires, bet its the signal wires, cust the unlock/lock part works but at times the signal to say the trunk is closed wouldnt communicate...

check the obvious, check the wires and go from there if ur trunk is messing up..

fix, didnt try it yet but worst case will just hardwire it.
