Airbox Hums

Just recently changed to a K&N drop in filter.

Since then I've noticed a Hum or Resonance. It's loud enough to hear easily at idle and low rpm. Once under acceleration it either goes away or is overwhelmed by engine noise.

I guessed it was the air filter/air box so I popped the hood yesterday and sure enough, there is a moderatly loud Hum/Resonance/Vibration from the Air Box/Intake.

Is this normal?

(Sorry for the noob-like question. First High Flow Filter I've had.)

Edit: Fogot to include - 2002 TL-S, 5AT.

make sure u put the air box cover back on correctly if it isnt air tight the engine hum will resonate out of the crack or opening in the intake. Also make sure your resonator didnt come off when you put the new filter in. That intake usually only makes that noise when there is no resonator or there is a vaccuum leak aka something isnt on tight/right

Totally normal. Some have had luck with positioning the box differently and decreasing volume of the hum. I have a broken tab and think that helps it to be loud, though.

Totally normal.

and yes if it isnt any of those things i mentioned above than its just the filter allowing more air to flow which causes the UFO hum

probably, there is less obstructive media in the filter, therfore not muting the sound as much as the thicker filters.

OK. Thanks.

I *do* have a broken tab. I *think* the dealer broke it a while back when the air filter was replaced. Too long ago to go back and just noticed it the other day.

(probably should've mentioned that before. )
