Accelerator pedal

Hello all, new here just signed up today.
Provided it passes an inspection at the dealer, I'll be a 00 TL owner next week.

My question is about the accelerator....It seems like it pushes hard just at first, then pushes normally. This makes for some very jerky starts, and neck snapping for the passengers, i would imagine it would make it difficult to park or pull into a garage as well, or any situation were very light throttle is required.

Is this something as simple as putting some lube on either the pedal or the throttle?

Its probably carbon build up around the butter fly. I would take A tooth brush and some carb cleaner pull open the butterfly and clean that area.

pull the black rubber tube off your Throttle body (connects the air filter box to the motor)and look in. You will see a brass colored butterfly. Manually open it with the throttle link and clean the area

my 00 does that too it just takes a little extra effort to get it to move but once its down your good to go. Yeah it bothers me once and awhile too I will have to try fixing now that I know how. I never thought it was even a problem just how the TL pedal was.

Thanks, I'll have to give that a try!

How strong is carb cleaner? If I get some on that rubber over the throttle body is it going to eat threw it? Or if some drips onto some other non-metal part of the car, do I need to wipe it off right away?

Perhaps I'll just try spraying some on the brush first rather than trying to spray it right on the butterfly area.

if you get a little on the rubber intake hose dont worry. I would wipe it off though, but it shouldnt harm anything.

Is there a big free-play in the accelarator-to-TB cable ? Maybe you need to adjust the
TB cable ... Wonder if it's adjustable ??????
