Acceleration problem

Hey people I have an issue

When I'm driving at highway speeds at about 70-75mph the car will begin to lose speed. It'll slow down to 40 and then will go slower and slower even though I'm hitting the gas and will eventually die. When I let it sit for a couple minutes and start it back up it'll run but once I start getting to high speeds again it'll do the same thing again. Anything I need to check or replace?

Sounds like a blocked catalytic converter to me, I deal with that exact problem at least 5 times a year with the fleet I operate.

Couple good ways to see if that's what it is....

First, you could run the car for a couple minutes at idle, if the front of the cat is super hot, and the rear is not the same temp, there's definitely a blockage.

Second, you could have someone revving the engine while you stand at the tailpipe and see how much air is moving out, if it feels like next to nothing, there's definitely a blockage.

This is actually my friend's boyfriends car. They apparently solved the issue. The negative ground cable was loose, but I will have them check what you guys suggested also. Thank you for your help
