99 tl speedometer stuck

99 tl speedometer stuck

on my friends 99 tl his speedometer stays stuck at 0 mph. and when you hit the dash it would jump 20mph and stay stuck again. any ideas?? is this a common problem??

theres a black connector on the transmission right next to the fill bolt. It's the countershaft speed sensor, unplug it and plug it back in.. let me know what happens.

unplugged and plugged it back in and still the same?? is that where the speedometer gets is signal in??

problem fixed..

figured out the problem!!! what me and my friend did was remove the cluster and disassembled the speedometer. found out that the hole in the middle of the speedo (where the needle goes) somehow dropped down and was not centered. it was resting on the needle and caused the needle to get stuck. this saved my friend over $100 that he was gonna dish out for a used cluster

quite a bit gutsy to remove the cluster by yourself and chance damaging the circuit board..but good job none the less of fixing the problem.

good job i like when people figure out the problems and how to fix them without going to the dealership

my buddy figured he had nothing to lose since he thought he had to get a new cluster anyways. it actually turned out for the better. usually doesnt happen that way when working on cars. lucky him...
