99 TL periodic starting issues

My 99 TL has a bad habit of not starting after it's been running for awhile:
1. Drive car until the it has reached full operating temperature
2. Park it for a while, the car starts fine
3. drive a short distance, park the car for a short time
4. Car will not start. The starter is turning the engine, all accessories work but no start
5. wait 3 to 4 minutes, car will start no problem

This behavior is very consistent. I took it to a mechanic (not an Acura specialist) and he couldn't find anything wrong. Has anyone else had this problem & were you able to find a solution?

Thanks!

99s have a problem with the ignition switch back- electrical part
While those are not the common symptoms, I would start there
usually it turns off and back on when driving- especially on turns

call acura care and see if it was ever replaced under the recall 1 800 382 2238x5
or your dealer can run the cars VIN and ck for you

They only cover it once- then its on you the next 2-3 times...no kidding
use same part and expect better results? go aftermarket less than 50 bucks
see DIY section for help on install

stop by a parts store and ask for electrical system test- its free and test batt alt and starter, wires etc
short drives dont allow the battery to be fully recharged after the starter draws from it

How are the spark plugs, air filter? no smell of fuel leak under hood?

Your symptoms would also be consistent with a main/efi relay.

nice call trash!!
someone had the FI relay bad recently = fuel injection relay- look under hood for relay blocks

you can swap them within same color (borrow one from another circuit) to test

If only it were that easy. This one is a double relay in a metal case that bolts in approximately above your left foot under the dash. They're commonly intermittent, hence hard to test.

This is a very common issue with aged Honda Automobile's. Had to change one on my CRX years ago and recently on my TL (past summer,OE part for about $60 and one small band aid). One of the most common symptoms of the "Main" relay failing is during a hot day your car wont start. Temporary remedy..open the windows and wait a few minutes. Then attempt to start.
It is a PITA to get to especially without bloodying up your hands.
