So I have had this annoying high pitch, but low volume, screeching noise that I can hear while inside the car driving. The strange thing is that when the engine is under load while accelerating the noise goes away, but as soon as I take my foot of the gas or coast it can be heard. It is also not a constant pitch noise, but more of a low level screeching noise that is not there under load and varies in pitch. Shifting the transmission into neutral or park while driving or stopped has no effect on the noise. I even replaced the accessory belt idler pulley this last weekend after using the car stethoscope technique to try and find the noise (it did need replacing - but that was not the issue. Car just turned 260K and I have owned since 20K and do all the regular maintenance myself. Tranny replaced for third time at 230K (first time I paid for it). Alternator is also newish (230K) and an Acura part.
Acceleration and shifting are great. I just want to get rid of this annoying, almost constant noise (not present while accelerating). Any thoughts on the culprit?????????????????
