99 TL Alternator

Hi Folks, quick question.

I have a friend replacing the alternator on my 99 TL. After replacing it, he notices something is wrong with the power steering.

Once the car is shut off, fluid is oozing out of power steering reservoir.

He checked all hoses to see if pressure is off. Seems to be okay.

I told him I know a good place to ask

Has anyone ran into this before while replacing their alternator?

As always, thank you,
D

Any ideas, anyone?

Checked the hose, no leaks.

Hey Nollid, replacing the alternator should have no effect on the power steering pump reservoir, unless for some unknown reason the unit or belt was moved. There is no need at all to even touch the ps components while installing a new alternator. If the pump's belt was loosened, check the alignment and tension.

Could be totally coincidental.....but, anyways clean everything up and try to isolate the source of the leak. Is it coming out from the top of the cap ? Maybe it's overfilled ? Check for a good seal of the cap, along with inspecting the reservoir for cracks. Also check the hose line connections.

Turns out it the O-ring on the hose to the power steering pump needed to be replaced. While he was working on the alternator, he moved the P/S hose just enough to effect the O-ring.
