I have a 2000 3.2 TL automatic with about 106k on the motor. Today while driving along I stopped at a light and noticed that the rpm's dropped below 500 rpm. The entire car shook when this happened and i had to place it into neutral to keep the rpm's at 1000 and to prevent it from maybe stalling. What do you guys think the problem is. One of my friends said it may be a vacuum leak. i don't know though. PLEASE HELP.
That would be a good first guess- it would have to be a serious leak, like the brake booster vac hose was off
The front and rear motor mounts have a vac line run to them- check for hose off
Or an ignition coil failed
Go to autozone or kragen type store and ask them to check it for codes- the connector is behind the plastic `pocket` in the center dash- between the seat heat buttons
If it gives multiple misfire codes - several cylinders misfire- you probably have 1 coil bad

I had a similar problem, except when my car went to switch from say 1 to 2, or 2 to 3, the tranny would give out for a second and i would slip into nuetral for half second, very scary lol. I ended up getting a completly new tranny, free from the dealership
IAC ( Idle Air Control) Valve will produce symptons like this. It is attached to the Throttle body and if you do a search you will find many posts about this problem. It is a valve that has a cylinder inside that turns to increase and decrease air flow to control the idle speed. If it gets dirty or fails, the engine idle will not be correct.

Usually if it's the Idle control valve the RPM's will go up and down. I had an Accord = the RPM's would drop low and then go back up to normal. It was this valve=just dirty. I cleaned it and all was well again.

the tech used BG44 a well known and trusted fuel cleaner
You should read and do Seafoam induction cleaning- gets all the crud out of the intake manifold- valves and piston tops
makes car run like new!!!
If you had a dirty fuel issue- are you running name brand gas?
and 91 octane, or 93 if thats what they sell in your area?
If using off brand, not tier 1 quality gas- expect to need fuel cleaner every 5000 miles
Redline SI-1 is another excellent product- JUST for fuel cleaning
