1st gear light illuminated no matter what gear
Hi guys,
I have a 2003 TL that has a weird problem. I am the second owner. The 1st gear light stays illuminated no matter what gear I am in (i.e D5 and 1st are both green when driving). It did have the recall work done on the transmission, but I can't find any other posts on this with info. It's at 119K. Is this something the dealer may fix under warranty? Any ideas what is causing this? It shifts fine.

I own a 2002 TL Type-s. It is doing the same thing. No matter what gear I am in the 1st gear illuminator on the dash is always on. My transmission failed at 90,000 and a new one was installed under the recall. It is now at 145,000. The light has been on since about 140,000. I am also confused as to what it means. Is it some kind of indicator? Everything shifts fine. Any Help??

Weird, 1st gear light isn't part of the OBDII code system.
I would guess an electrical problem in the gauge cluster, but that would seem unlikely. I doubt changing the bulb would fix it either. Hmm, idk.
Reset the ECU, and see if it stops. If it stops and comes back later, then the car is doing it on purpose to tell you something.

Update - Possible Fix
Took car into dealer. Pulled Code 1710 and then followed diagnostic procedures and traced to "Shift Select Assembly".
Cost for part from dealer is $130.00 and labor was going to be $350.00+.
Does anyone have a diagram of shift tunnel and part?
TIA
