125,025 Miles and.....
BOOM....My transmission just shit the bed. The D5 Keeps flashing and the Check Engine and TCS lights just came on.
Shifts straight from 1st to 4th then quickly drops to 2nd and kicks real hard. Kicks hard every shift and every down shift. Should I buy a new one? Rebuild it? How much would it be for a new one? Now im thinking about get it done and trading the car in. I want a 3G but i cant afford it being E-2 in the Marine Corps. What do you guys think???

to rebuild at local shop runs anywhere from 1500 to 2800 or 3000 dollars based on recent postings on here
All depends on how many parts are worn out--you got that far on a trans I will guess its mostly worn out~
junkyards are bad idea as they have been sitting= bad for the seals
There are some shops able to get a case and build a TL trans so they do a direct swap out with yours,
otherwise its a few days to a week or more as they make attempts to rebuild, doesnt work- remove and try again -install- test...
acura dealer uses rebuilt units from a place that has a big contract with them
You cant buy a brand new trans for our car

Will the rebuilt have a warranty from the dealership? I had a 96 Tahoe and had a new transmission installed by small shop and it had a 3yr/100K warranty.....though it did cost $3K. Transmission failed 2 more times after that, had them replaced at the Chevy dealership and later sold it....

My warranty is long gone. Its all out of pocket now. I just test drove it now to see if there was anything different. The check engine light is still on but its shifting normal again. Its my only car. I guess im going to just let it sit there will i run around trying to find a shop.

well i already have replaced tranny once and i took it to aamco and they gave me a loaner for free, but im sure i payed for it, this is my dd too,and im a ups driver so if my car goes down on me it dont feel good in my wallet, but i have nothing but time as long as i get a loaner, might be something worth looking n2...the cost last time i replaced was 2500 its hefty but it was the cheapest when u consider no 1 else would give me a loaner, long story short i know where im takking mine when its time again

aa--- screws with you on warranty- big time extra cost for a decent length..recently reported by ziners in need
acura rebuilt comes with 3/36 parts and labor--meaning if its diagnosed bad they swap in another unit- not try to fix that one
Dealers dont go inside the auto trans for repairs
You can try to negotiate with acura for Goodwill help-price match rebuilders locally
if you are out of vin range on the extended warranty or past time and miles but have taken good care of the car- its gotten an oil change or 2 at the dealer..

the TL will often give the flashing lights, and may even go into Limp mode and not allow more than 2500-3000 rpm with trans failure
Pull over and let it sit 15 minutes, then it will get you home or off the freeway
The next day all is well !!!!!
or so it seems~
The end is near, smell the fluid, burnt? bad news now
pay attention to shifting and slipping into 2nd and 3rd- thats the final signs
be easy on the car till you can do whatever fix is decided on

125kmiles- did you do the 105 service- timing belt, water pump, valve adjustment, spark plugs etc? calculate that 1000++ into the repair total with the trans vs car value
At a certain point, its easier to buy a used honda and get better mileage for the same 4-5 thousand dollars to fix the current car
