02 TL defroster low fan pressure

All heat and AC settings work and some air comes out of defroster, but not enough to defrost windshield, even with defrost button selected. New cabin air filters. Both Control modules function when I push or select the controls on dash - meaning I can see the arms moving.

If I turn the heat selector all the way left the defroster fan speed blows strong. But of course, the air is cold. So, I know the diverted door opens.

What gives?

I have heat, but little air at defroster vents unless I turn the heat setting counterclockwise all the way. Then it blows strong through the defroster vents. But of course, there is no heat then because the setting is all the way toward cold.

I'll suspect you have error code L or M. The motor might be moving but I believe the plastic gears inside the unit have a tendency of their teeth becoming brittle and breaking off. It would affect the unit's ability to fully open the defroster doors.

Skirmich has a DIY on how to fix that motor.

Ran test twice, no error code.

symptoms still same: with system on Auto, heat dial turned up to 75, fan on either Auto or manual set high, mode on defrost and floor, very little air at defrost vents.

when I switch mode between floor only, and defrost and floor, the fan pressure at floor drops as it should even though i can tell fan still blowing the same. Even with fan at highest level I get little defrost pressure.

With defrost override button pressed, no change. But, with defrost override pushed in if I turn heat control all way left to blue section the defrost vents blow hard. But of course the air coming out is cold.

Like chojun said. It's prolly the mode control valve or mix door valve. If you look behind where the dash where your feet normally are(drivers side and pax side), you'll see a couple of black boxes(about the size of a cigarette pack) with silver linkage arms. Watch what the arms do while playing with different A/C settings and look for smoothness of operation. If you see any binding or here any clicking that will be your culprit.
