01 TL NN - suddenly dead

Hello everyone, I'm new around here.

The kid drove the thing to school all normal, then when he tried to start it that afternoon, no ignition.
Turns over fine.

I took a can of ether over, opened the air intake up, gave it a shot and got a couple seconds of run, so I'm pretty sure of a fuel system fail.

Towed it home:
No DTC's at all, plain or enhanced.
Fuel tank has fuel.
Fuel pump is running up on key turn.
Fuel pressure 48 with key on position II
No blown fuses that I can find.

So I'm left wondering if there is a single point of failure for the injector harness?

Anybody else run across this one?

Thnx in advance.

In searching the list archives I ran across a few refs to failure of the Main Fuel Relay.
Where would I find it?

Good morning Dave, welcome aboard !

By chance, is your TL a '99 ? If so.....they are known to have ignition switch problems. Try wiggling the key while attempting to start. Try a different key. Could possibly be an interlock or immobilizer issue. Move the gear shifter around, attempt starting in neutral with brake pedal fully depressed.

The PGM-FI main relay (15A) is located in the driver's side lower fuse box. It's up on the upper rhs corner of this box. While down there, also check fuses #11 (15A) and #13 (7.5A). Up underhood, check #42 (60A), #46 (15A) and #4. Closely inspect battery cables, along with starter connections. Ensure that ground wires are tight.

Hi and thanks!

Not a 99, it's a 2001 3.2 TL non-navi.

"The PGM-FI main relay (15A) is located in the driver's side lower fuse box."
I understood that to be the 15 amp fuse to the relay, not the relay itself?

I will try your other suggestions, thanks again.

Dave

If you can hear the pump and tested the fuel pressure and have fuel pressure it sounds like a spark issue. Have you tested the coil or pull a plug out and connect it to the coil and see if you are getting spark?

Love your anim gif. "I'm going home".

Not a spark issue. If I give it a shot of ether. it'll kick over for a second or two.
So I know if I can get it fuel, it'll go.

Pump works, pressure within range.
Figured that only leaves injectors.
Hence my original question of there being a single point of failure for the injector harness?

Another possible eliminated.
Replaced the main fuel injection relay.
No joy.

I'm running out of ideas here.
My injectors don't seem to be working and I can't find the fault.

By ANY LUCK... Do you see a Green Key on the Dash lighting up and staying On when you try to start it??? If your key lost the signal to the inmobilizer it will Stop the Ignition Signal all together (Been there, Done That)....

It will Crank but no Start at All and It seems like there is No Spark = Possible Key Inmobilizer Issue.

If I can shoot ether down the air intake and it fires up doesn't that eliminate everything except injector failure.

Or is that what the immobilizer does?
Just freezes the injectors?

Skirmich, YOU DA MAN (OR WOMAN)!

That is the weirdest thing.
Apparently it doesn't stop the ignition sequence but *does* stop the injector sequence.

Many thanks.
Cheapest fix I've ever had on that car.
