FINALLY progress on swapping out my tan drivers seat. No more mismatched interior!
Instead of messing with the wiring harness, Rockstar21 gave me the idea of just swapping the cushions and stuff.
PLUS a fiberglass rear lip that i picked up from Rejckt fo free
Probly gonna get a body shop to install it for me. I might even get it molded into the rear bumper
(excuse all the old furniture that we need to sell lol)

in addition to my project TL....
we finally have a rolling chassis!
SAE Mini Baja. we designed and built this baby from scratch. 11hp Briggs and Stratton lawnmower engine gets it to about 35-40 mph on dirt.
i spent my entire spring break this past week in the machine shop, 12-14 hours a day, to meet our deadline to have a rolling chassis by next week. im exhausted lol.

after getting pulled over 3 times in the past couple years (most recently about a month ago) for speeding (thankfully all verbal warnings) i finally pulled the trigger on this...
Passport 8500. less than 100 bucks on ebay. only took a 10 minute trip on the expressway to see that it worked well. im probly gonna hardwire it after the semester is over.
its not that i constantly speed, i just know the next time i get pulled over im going to get a ticket so in addition to driving cautiously, i want some extra assurance.

Good work!
the pillars, window trim and door handles flow nicely with the rest of the car, especially with the drop you left it at.
Did you use that plasti-dip (sp?) on the door handles too?
I don't usually like painted interior parts (the seat belt plastic piece was just too much) but I think when you had the red door inserts with the silver trim (vs the ugly fake wood original) it didn't look bad. Maybe if you did it with the material you used on the head liner it'll look even better?
Either way, great job on tackling all the mods on your own.
You probably know this by now, but the trim on the hood can easily be taken off from behind, it's 5 or 6 nuts. (I noticed you masked the front in the first few pictures)

Update 8/3/11:
Was going to part out completely and sell the car but it doesn't seem financially possible until I graduate college next May. Also, I'm starting to like this car again. There was a period of about 4 months when I hated it because there were so many issues to take care of. But, now those are taken care of and I realized it's not so bad.
So here's a few pics from today.
Since my last update I:
-got ticket for expired license and inspection past due
-replaced rusted leaky B-pipe
-got oil changed
-got used tires put on for inspection (225/50-17 and yes I know they are big)
-FINALLY passed inspection after it being 6 months expired
-got both tickets for license and inspection thrown out
-got fiberglass rear lip back and installed it
-got OEM side skirts in NGM but they look black so I left em
-sold all unnecessary aftermarket parts
-finished swapping black driver's seat in
-wrapped almost all interior panels in black leatherette because paint is not holding up to abuse
-replaced all door panels
-went to Hyundai dealer several times to look at Genesis Coupe 2.0t 6MT
Today I installed the rear lip and washed the wheels with Sonax Full Effect. Engine bay cleaning will be next with Adam's All Purpose Cleaner.
Before:
During:
After:
Not bad for 9 year old wheels.
Ok so the side skirts do look off in these pics
Interior pics coming soon, as well as, black housed headlights (for real this time).

haha the quads were photoshopped. i want to do them still but a nice pair of dual tips plus welding is actually quite costly for what it is. plus i would also have to modify the rear lip to accommodate the tips. i had a small amount of money put aside for mods, and it went towards the interior and the black housed lights. the quads will have to wait.
but man did they look good

got a chance to take some pics today.
i ended up really liking the black wood finish on the door panels so i kept it and did something different.
i have no idea what that stain is. it shows up a few days later everytime i paint it. i even cleaned it with acetone before painting. i guess i have a leak in my roof?
and some more of the fiberglass rear lip fitment.
yeah i got stickers
the lip is glossy, the whole car is just real dirty from taking it to the off road track at my school today.
so my question now is...should i paint the gauge panel SSM as well? i would keep the radio and coin tray where the 3.2TL is black.

well mostly how to take off the front bumper. and how to remove the actual HIDs without damaging them. ive just never done it on this car before, but shit how hard can it be?
ive changed headlights on my other cars before but never HIDs. i just want to read up on how to do it so i dont mess anything up.

3 pedals in my 99 TL

Yea its pretty easy actually. If u take off the front bumper it makes it 1847563738 times easier. Its possible without removing it but your access is more limited. All you really need to do for the HIDs is just swap ballasts and take out all the bulbs and whatnot and put it on your new ones. Its a piece of cake. If anything theres a lot of DIYs here on the 2G section. Youll be able to figure it out. You know whats up haha

thanks for the tips. i went out and took a peek at everything and it seems pretty straightforward. but its the hottest part of the day now and theres no shade.
ill do it later today. should only take about an hour or so. not looking forward to those pop clips holding on the bumper though
