I think I am still going to try the HID Kit route for my rear fogs and put the bulbs in the inner lens of the tail housing....wire up a switch seperately...we talked about that here https://acurazine.com/forums/2g-tl-performance-parts-modifications-116/rear-fog-lamp-702939/ Only to be used during heavy rain/fog...they got HID kits now for $59 on some sites..hella cheap!! in the pics, he was actually showing off his rear HIDs in his back up lenses, but we asked him to put one of the HID bulbs in the brakelamp section..you can see how much brigher they are than the running lights.

If you do that, you are going to have to be extra cautious that you don't blind anyone behind you

^^ both hid lights would be in the red section (like left side tail showed in pic) not the back up lenses (like the light on the rightside)

They would only be on in foggy conditions or heavy rain, it would be hard to blind them with red light

The rear fogs would not be clear (illegal).

The brake/running lights would still work, just one less bulb per side since the HID bulb would be sitting in the inner bulb area

Ahhh, gotcha! But yeah, definitely only use them in fog or heavy rain. My friend has a 3 series with the rear fogs and it is annoying as hell when I'm driving behind him. The light hurts my eyes. Maybe it's because I am dropped and the light beam is hitting me more dead on than it would a non-lowered car, but I don't know for sure.

Yeah I got what you are saying, you want to put HIDs in the inner sections of the rear brake lights (not in the reverse lights). Here's the 3-Series:

You can even see in that picture how much glare there is. That is almost how much glare there is in real life. And if you wear glasses, it makes more glare.

^^^ I love it, when the weather is really bad or it is foggy, these rear fogs really do a great job in making your car way more visable! I really could of used these when i lived in Colorado for those snowstorms and driving on I-25 between Colo Spgs, Monument and Denver...visability sux on that road in those snowy conditions!!

Did that person (is it CiskoTLS?) take any pics of the rear fog on and the brake light on? Not the running light but the brake light. I want to see the difference in brightness.

Yeah, Cisko got the boot off Azine for something, not sure what he did..but there are no pics that i know of with the HID rear fog on and brake lights on...my guess is that it would be slightly less brighter than the rear HID fog..i still think it would be noticeable when braking since the outer lights would get almost as bright and the third brake light in the window or spoiler would come on also..or both if those folks haven't disconnected the window light upon spoiler install. I know that cars like Oldmobile Aurora have their rear fogs on the back bumper so there is some seperation between the running/brake lights and rear fogs so that when the brake lights come on, it is more noticeable...I think you could see the brake lights in this setup pretty easy...sheeet for $59, it may be worth a try. I think the H11 kit would be the best for this setup since the HID bulbs are not as long as a 9006 style HID bulb...i got some ideas on how to get the bulb to stay in the housing since they may not turn and click into place like the normal bulb harness..

that would the main and only reason i would get them.

people tailing you by 18 inches deserve to be blinded. just not normal drivers. so yea it'd be something to make sure you dont leave on. but for the Aholes that cant wait.. shine on!

Thinking about adding the rear fog to my car. Not the bumper one but a custom one onto the taillights.

that taillight one is a lot more appealing. only crappy part then is that you're one less regular taillight on each side...

Yeh thats sorta the reason why I didnt go for it, NY cops pull you over for nothing, so it would either look way too bright, but hey to each is his own......if people like 6-8 ballasts in their cars it shouldnt be a problem 4 is fine for me though.......

I just installed 18 SMD LED bulbs in the reverse housing... and they aren't that bright. They look a lot nicer than the halogen white, but they dont illuminate the area behind me... HID in reverse is hot...

haha, i guess that is true, 6 ballasts in the car...never thought of it that way. The kits are so cheap, I'm going to do this soon when I do some other running of wires for stereo stuff. I'm trying to figure where to get the power from. I'm def using a relay with custom on/off switch in the dummy panel next to dimmer switch. I think i can run one power wire to battery to relay, then add a circuit to one of the ON switched fuse slots to the relay, then run a power wire to rear to the ballasts, then ground them in the back in the trunk.

Another option is to possibly tap power with the trailer wire harness located in the trunk and figure out a way to wire up a switch that would only allow the HIDs to come on when the lights are on.

I gotta map it out, but either way it would be reversable back to stock if i got tired of it or sold the car..then sell the HID kit cheap or put it in the wifeys car to upgrade her headlights. (not those kind lol)

Dude, I say props to you for trying something different. Very unique and it's your car. You are the one that walks out to it everyday and say "damn that looks good," not anyone else. Way to be original son, i give major ups for creating an unknown or going down the less traveled path. Plus it keeps the common dude or chick in question like, "where's the other one??"

i like your car man... came along real nicely since youve been on AZ the rear foglight is cool too im one who likes to for the most part stay fairly conservative with mods, (mainly because im broke) but i like it...

i have a question for you though, what did you do to your headlights?? i noticed in some other thread you have the corners of your headlights all orange as opposed to just the reflector. I actually like that, was just wondering what you did.

I give you props for the attempt, but looks odd with only one. The light resembles the rear fogs I had on my old EF Civic SiR conversion (but two of them). If you had two, one red and one clear (similar to the Skyline R34 setup on both sides of the license plate recess in the bumper but reversed), it would look sick. I think you blazed too much on decision day...............

going back to the rear fog thing. not something i would do but it looks pretty cool.

The JDM/ EURO and EURO-R thing is pretty cool. its seperates interests and tastes.

I may not be a fan of the rear fog too much but the ones JDM Inspired has on the sides of his front bumper is Fkin sick. I thought about doing it but i didnt want to look like a swagger jacker. I think a clear fog with 3k bulbs on the side would really set it off in the street especially at night, but the yellow cover looks sweet in the day like at dus or dawn.

Clean install. Not my taste though, I've always thought the rear of our cars was always nice and clean. Question though, I assume this for visibility while reversing?

Actully a few days in NY it was FOGGY as ever, Highways and everything, i was like WTF is wrong with NY? but the rearfog helps you out DEF in times like those, its not everyday but it happens......I never thought about it helping me out while reversing, but to think of it yeh it does help also......
