Position of Front License Plate

So after my failed attempt of black housing my headlights today, I had to do something after all that wasted time to redeem myself.

Yay or Nay?

And at some angles, you cant even see it at all. Which is what I want. But I think I just may take it off and hope for no ticket, did it for a few months but was always paranoid about it.

I don't think it's legal at all. How's about like this? Just fold the plate and attach to the two bolts that's already there (used for the plate's bracket)

Well guys...hate to break it to you, but both are illegal. I would check your state law but, I'm positive that the plate has to be unobstructed. If the state or "state motto" is blocked in any way, the cop has a reason to pull you over.

Heres mine (i was paranoid too, so i put it on after two years):

pistacio, I had it on that way before, and I noticed the bottom of the plate started to rub my clearcoat off on my front lip, so I removed it and am trying to find a way to get this thing on nicely. Looks horrible the way its supposed to sit originally. I dont wanna block the middle curve of the bumper or lip so I think this thread will bring in some ideas

I'm also looking for a way to attach my plate to the front, and unlike most people, I dont even have that original frame that you're supposed to attach to the bottom of the bumper thats supposed to come up and block the middle curve....

I've been driving without a front plate for like a month now, and I'm gettin real paranoid about it, so i hope someone comes up with a good idea on how to attach the plate to the front to make it legal and look good at the same time.

Yeah, I understand that the plate should be unobstructed, but in my case, atleast I can "argue" with the officer that all the information on the plate are visible (the word "california", license plate #) and can still be easy readable. That would be my main defends if I ever get stop for unobstructed front license plate.

I fold the top and bottom of the plate about an inch each side. Our car already have two holes on top of the bottom grille for mounting the plate's frame, so I just screw the plate in those two holes. Very simple!
Here is the old close up pic:

I love the no front plate look

that is until I got hassled by some cop, so then I got a plate relocator off of ebay and had my plate mounted like this for a while

it bolts underneath the bumper so that you cant see the holes.

then I just said fuck it and took it off again.

Its the same idea as Lacviet's plate....I used two "L" shaped brackets with a hole on each end of the "L". Search the forum, you'll find a couple threads on it.

u culd also flip the bracket upside down then mount it..using longer bolts for the existing holes or by drilling new holes to mount it into the top of the lower grille opening

thx to pistacio for the idea to do this, alwasy hated the stock front but didn't want to deal with the law, so i fabed this up after looking how he did it.

side view

I put some sticky foam tape, like the kind to insulate doors and windows in a house, behind each bolt so it wouldn't wack against the bumper and chip the paint

It's just a screen mesh / gutter guard or whatever it is from Home Depot; very cheap, too. I think I still have the template for that lower grill somewhere in my garage. Yeah, maybe we can meet sometimes. Let me know.

That's it ....you got it! (You could bend it a little so that the plate doesn't hit the bottom part of the bumper)

today, after reading dis, went to rona, bought 2 screws and couple washers, fliped over the front plate, and it looks badass...it flows wit the front end of a 02-03 tl, and slopes wit the bumper...

total cost, 1.20 for it all

It's too bad so many states still require front plates. It really takes away from the look of the car. Not only does AZ not require front plates, the plate frame in the back can cover up the state name. The only thing you can't do is cover your plate so photo radar can't read it.
