(for those who dont get what i mean, sit in a jetta with the monsoon system in the previous gen or a prev gen 5 series were the tweeter is next to the rear door handle. recline the seat back and listen. you can hear the front speakers like normal but the rear tweeter is firing right at you and messes up the sense of fading and balance.) i could be wrong but thats what seems to make sense to me.
Mount the mids, trash the tweets. Cross them over at 60 - 250 with a steep rolloff and it'll sound awsome for the guys up front. If, for some reason, u care about the people in the rear DO NOT use those Focals they will kill ur stage; try something with a softer, less abrasive tweeter (Silk or fabric dome.)

The other option is to have them mount them inside the door panel. Or have someone fabricate a bracket (if you have the room like mine. These are CDT Audio braxials and they come with that bracket to mount the tweeters.

CDT huh, im sure they sound insane. i am doing all the install work myself, i did custom audio for a few years in college and highschool. the bracket is good idea, i have to see if when i install it, it clears the panel. did you do the same for the rear?
what gets me about the rear door speakers is that in cars that have the speakers there, most of the sounds is muffled by the rear passengers leg. i had an explorer a while ago and if there were 3 people in the back seat, you couldnt hear anything back there. i may just mount the speaker mid as normal and then find a way to mount the tweeter behind the stock grill but not over the mid.

Has anyone ever tried using a waveguide in their cars... i had a set in my prelude... a nice 6 speaker competition system.. 2 USD waveguides, 2 10" JBL for mids, and 2 12" kicker subs all on zapco amps.. a good stealth system and the imaging was dynamite granted it was a 2 door car, but nevertheless you could do something like that and have a set of tweets and mids for the back. http://www.usdaudio.com/products/wg.php

A good 4 years old now, had them in my buick before hand. Concert sound 2 in the lesabre came with stock components in their doors, but that consisted of a speaker near the base of the door and tweeters mounted in the arm rest.
They way i have it here, the staging is a lot better, as would in the door panel also, and when i swapped systems over when i got this car, it was almost like getting a new system cause the sound was that much better in the tl.

did you put those in with the factory deck?
my buddy makes fun of our radios, he has an es300 and his is hands down better then ours. it pisses me off. for a car aimed at a youthful audience they really didnt cover the audio section.

do you hear the rear tweeters from the front? thats my fear. my buddy had a similar setup in an suv and it was disorienting. but he also didnt know anything about audio or let anyone tune it for him.
my 2 sets of focal components came in today and im getting antsy waiting for the pioneer avic z1 to come out.

gotcha. lucky the cross overs for these have a level adjustement for the tweeter on them. i plan on mounting the tweeters inthe door panel in the rear. you have given me encouragement. many people including myself in the past frown on rear components. i figure since a lot of factory sound has rear comps, whynot try.

The "factory" doesn't give a SH!T about sound staging and imaging. It cares about selling cars. They want to hear things like "wow Mr. salesperson that stereo is loud" and "Omg that sure is a lot of bass". Hence were now stuck with 6x9's, 5x7's and rear components. all to give the test-driver the most bang for the buck with a lot less emphasis on the "bang" and more on the "buck".
PS: JMAL, if ur 1 of those people who, at home, turns the surround channels all the way up then u'll love rear components in your car

the only reason i am tryin this is becuase these comps have a tweeter attenuator. i hope they sound good, and dont disturb the imaging too much. since i am going to mount the tweeter right next to the driver, its really going to be no diff then imaging of a 2way coaxial, except the tweeter will be further forward so that it is not blocked as easily. i hear you when you joke about the surround speaker people, that EXACTLY what my friend with the suv that i mention earlier is like. and i said it before, i was never into comp in the rear in the past, but after thinking about it, i want to try it. ill have all this install by the jun 24th nj meet. if you in the area, you can hear it. i dont know what to expect, maybe youll be surprised
