Cool Painting engine cover...

Yeah, nice and simple, although my dumb self forgot I had a digi camera and didn't take too many "here is the process" pics....

basically it was, clean (some sort of acetone based cleaner), sand (for adhesion), prime (fairly thin coat x 1), paint (thinner coats x 2), then clear coat (thinner coats x 1)...

here are the pix...enjoy! Pix r here

PS If I knew how to airbrush, my engine cover would probably be the nicest looking thing in my car lol :clown:

thx

Clean and sand took about 10 mins.
Primer to spray and dry took about 1 hr; I left it in the sun.
Paint to spray and dry took about 1-2 hrs; again left in the sun.
Clear coat to spray and dry took about 1-2 hours; again left in the sun.

Since the primer is a thin coat, it didnt take that long to dry. I wanted to ensure that the paint and clear coat layers were really really dry before I did anything else.

On a hot, dry, sunny day, you could probably get done in 4 hours tops.
