Mr. Maker's progress thread*

i joined this site a little over a year ago when i got my
99TL..there is such a wealth of information on this
forum..i have learned so much thanks to the SEARCH button.

most of these pictures are from my cell phone so some
may look shitty.i will try to keep them in order..

first thing i did was buy some cheap napa fog lamps..

then i painted the grille surround nbp.

i really like the look of the 3g base wheels and i
finally found some for a good deal..they would have
to wait to be mounted until i had money for tires..

then i got the urge to black out my headlamps..i opted
to leave my orange reflectors since i like the look and
don't plan on getting 02-03 tails..plus i think it will flow best
when i decide to get around to markers in the fenders..

clear my lens's while i'm at it...

nice progress

i never thought about using a heat gun to open the headlights. how long did it take? was it a frustrating process? or was it less risky than sticking the whole thing into an oven?

Very nice. The only thing that I don't really like is the fog lights. You look like a truck. They should be right under your headlights. But very nice car and yeah the oem plastic mud guards look eh but color matched mud guards look pretty nice. Hope your posting a picture of that soon.

looks excellent!
what did you patch the fogs into? the heads?

I baked my head lights and I put in led strips along the bottom, i can't really decide what i want them to patch into...I don't really want them to flash with the parking lights when i turn, but I do want to be able to use them as DRLs...decisions no?

Hook them up to switched ignition power so theyre on at all times. You should be able to grab power at the fuse box.

If you plan to keep the mudguards on, you should put something soft between the mudguards and the body, because they'll chafe the paint off your front doors, side skirts, and bumper.

What kind of machine did you mount the tires on and how long between paint and mounting tires? I mounted my tires about 4 days after I had them painted and the machine scuffed them up

The trick is keeping it clean underneath. Its not the mudflaps that cause the scuffs, its dirt trapped between the mudflaps rubbing on the paint.

hmmm good idea...

wouldn't that require routing the wires through the engine bay?

the fogs came with harness..i zip tied it through the core support
to the battery..then under the fender liner through the fire wall to
the dash..
