looks nice, but if you want to get rid of the dirt all up in there, a toothbrush is good, but be wary of some thin scratches.

i took the plate off and cleaned the individual parts in the sink. much easier and thorough than using a toothbrush one by one. surprising how much soda/food one can spill in there.

I used this thread to take apart the shift gate. the prnd4321 plate comes of so you can clean it easily:

Good job on the cleaning. You should grab some 303 aerospace protectant and wipe it down so nothing fades.

You just have to twist as hard as humanly possible, unless you have a '99, in which case I've read it's different.

I have an 00 but honestly I am seriously afraid if I use too much force it will break but I suppose I will give it another try.

wow, thats an amazing job. can you do a DIY on this please?

lol @ you guys saying how to unscrew the shift knob. you dont just twist it hard, it'd actually fuck your shit up.

there are 3 tiny hex screws once you remove the silver screw cover.

Wait above it said it is just for the 99 so can anyone with an 00 confirm this?

Once again, crazyfool doesn't know what he is talking about. That applies to the 99's only, I have a 2000, mine just twists off.

mini DIY:
1. the black outside frame is taken off easily by sliding your fingers under the corners and then pulling it out.
2. the silver piece requires pulling on one edge away from its position horizontally, and then upwards.
6. take off the shift knob by simply twisting it (no screws or anything). If it doesn't budge, a 4.99 Strap Wrench from Sears Hardware does the trick (worked perfectly for me) http://www.northerntool.com/images/p...1501539_lg.jpg
4. pull the diffuser out vertically (The PRND4321 thing)
5. clean the diffuser, silver piece, and black frame in the sink with hot water
6. wipe anything else you find dirty inside the shift gate
7. assemble everything and you're done

if i knew you guys wanted a DIY, i would've taken pictures during the process (some very very interesting pix of all the filth), but I thought that this was too easy of a task sorry. any questions or clarification please ask.

There is NOTHING you need to remove, you just untwist it.

well you shouldnt say that, then everyone could mess theirs up.

mine had 3 screws and it was a stock woodgrain shift knob.

maybe that is why.

Nice try, but no. co1063 has the woodgrain knob, and his twisted off per his word.
