Talking Baktommy's 2000 TL Build Thread (pic heavy)

WARNING, Picture heavy!

Lets begin, I received the car in the middle of my junior year as my first car, and here is how it looked when I first got it.

-

Upon owning the car, I replaced the water pump, timing belt, and a couple other things.

-

Shortly thereafter I hated the look of the oem wheels so I picked up some of these.

-

After owning it a bit I hit this funny number, but shortly after, around 170k miles my tranny went out, and had to get it rebuilt for like 2k...
Either way, my car is set for awhile now haha

-

After saving up a bit i purchased these Eibach Pro-Kit Lowering Springs.

The drop was like an inch and a half or so, but it wasnt low enough for me x_x

-

After some time I found a guy that would do an even trade for wheels off of a 3rd gen TL.

I know I know they looked a bit rough

-

Got some spray paint to make them look better haha

-

I finally got sick of the springs, uninstalled them, and sold them. -

-

But bought some used Ksport Coilovers for 300. But, it was too good to be true -_- They were blown and drove like shit, but i got used to the ride and kept along haha.

-

Didn't have the right funds so just wanted to do a small mod, so i custom modded the front grill with some mesh i got from Lowe's.

Here it is installed without painting the mesh.

After painting the mesh matte black.

I kept them on for a while but eventually just went back to the oem front Grille.

-

I couldnt stand the horrible ride of the blown coils so i saved up some and purchased some Form And Function Type 1's

-

I eventually traded my oem wheels for something a little different, Enkei Raijins.

-

I waited FOREVER but i could not find an oem lip kit ANYWHERE, so eventually i caved and purchased the full body Wings West Lip Kit from VIS Racing Sports, and lets just say I was eh about it at first but after owning them and seeing them on i grew a liking to them.

-

Here are some photos after a wash, I know i know everyone, the lip kit doesnt have paint, im still working on it

-

While driving with the lip kit installed with only double sided tape (my fault), the front lip came off and dragged a bit, causing a good chunk of the lip kit to piece off (the circle in the picture). I plan to bondo it as soon as I can and also paint the whole kit

-

I wanted to hear some bass, so I installed a stereo system, (4) MTX Terminator Door Speakers, 900 Watt Jensen Amp, Digital Design 8" Sub (they kick pretty hard for an 8"), and last a Kenwood Head Unit.

-
And here we are present day. Ive been working on the car while I was in high school and now im in college, moneys hard to come by, but more work is still to be done, I have more plans, future mods, and parts & paint to buy, but in due time. I hope this thread didnt bore you, its not anywhere near showable or done, and i still have a long way to go, but i know ive done a good amount. I still love this car and I want to continue working on it until I see it done in my eyes.

-

Here is what it looks like present day and my favorite picture, thanks to the folks at Automodia.

once you get your kid painted and re-fitted, should look nice

yeah tOny3 gave me alot of good deals, but money was always the problem ): i had a part time job so i had to do alot of trading and saving, i was always looking and considered the good deals, even for the steering hub im still wanting it, but now with college here, modding seems so far away

i think the whole kit is cheaper than that.. but of course you'll have to factor in the cost of painting

Looking good. If you want an oem lip look with a wings west kit all you need is a grinder and balls. Cut off the fins on the ww front lip and bam almost a perfect oem lip.

^ don't forget the fins on the side skirts also! I was going to go that route, but I was able to grab a deal on a oem lip kit like a week before I was goin to purchase the ww.

You car is nicely done, and the ww kit, even with the fins, still looks really good. Just get it painted and you'll be good to go. Very nice progress.

Clean! This last shot is the best setup you had thus far in my opinion.
