2g Custom Tweeter Pods

Just thought I would share with the peeps at Azine a recent project of mine with a lot of help from my installer. I sell car audio for a living and to be honest was frusterated that Acura decided not to have a seperate tweeter for our cars. At first I just had my Boston Pro tweeters surface mounted. And well that's just blah. So with a lot of paitience and some creativity we turned these out. This is the first fiberglass I have really played with so it was a learning process. Let me know what you think!

How it started holes in the mirror block off plates.

A bit of test fitting to get the angle desired.

Driver and passenger.

Support bracket and partial skeleton glued in.

Cathair Fiberglass.

Another Angle.

Starting to take some shape...

Finish of day one.

Next adding some bondo to fill in a lot of the pits.

I wish I had some of the photos of when the pods were three colors, I spaced taking them. This was when they were green, pink and orange from what was used. Glass, Bondo and Primer. They looked super cool with different elements filling in different scratches and pits and what not.

Some wet sanding and paint.

On to what I felt was finished product... I was wrong. LOL

Tweeter test fit.

I was pretty satisfied at this point thinking I was going to scratch using the grill. Then I came to the conclusion that I felt like they looked unfinished. The grill on these tweeters are a massive bitch. To be honest the whole assembly is a massive bitch and Boston completely over engineers their product. So on to more sanding (inside the mount) to get everything to fit the way I wanted.

Finished product, different flat paint grill fits.

Driverside. This is my install manager. He is picking up a 3g Monday! Super stoked for BitchinChristian!

And one for daily driving slammed in the snow!

Thanks for looking. Sorry for the novel!

I could see what it would take to build another set. I would probably need your tweeters and different mounts to build another set.

What kind of seperates do you have? I think i read Focal? How do you like those? I was about to remount mine as a coax in the front as a cleaner install but decided with some work we could make some pretty sweet pods with glass... or so I was convinced.

great job!

How is it driving slammed during the winter? If some huge snow/ice/salt mixed chunk falls from someones mudguards there is no option to drive over it. you gotta dodge it.

Thanks man!

This will be my first winter... honestly, I'll probably raise it up a bit so i can make it over those huge chunks of ice, you can't always dodge them especially if the roads are bad so there is no choice but to drive over them.

Thanks brotha! Appreciate it. I knew a lot would appreciate the work that went into this. That's why I took all the photos I did. I'm at the 72nd and Federal location in Westy. We should meet up sometime man! Grab a drink or something. It'd be nice to meet a fellow aziner. As I stated above my install manager is picking up a 3g tomorrow! Woot!

Totally does! It's been SUPER cold in Colorado this week. I'm glad they can withstand the bitterness of negative degree weather...

Thanks man! The Cathair is made by Duraglas. Not sure how much experience you have with glass. But be careful. If you mix this stuff to hot it can burn you.

I'm not sure where I have read... but it doesn't fit. I believe the angle is different.

Thanks! Not too bad to be honest. You just want to be careful when you mix in the hardener too much and it will cure too fast, too little and it will take forever to cure. Also to much will get really hot and burn you if you aren't careful. I'd recommend playing around with it a bit before you commit to doing your tweets.

This is the only one that I have at the moment... Haven't gotten to the headliner just yet. Looks MUCH better in person than this photo IMO.

how did you wire these to your system? I've heard that it's just tapping into the door speakers but im concerned about blowing the tweets if there is no control over the frequencies...

They are wired into the crossover that comes with the boston pro's component system. Any/All qualtiy component kit should come with cross overs. Or if you are buying the tweets alone, they come with a capacitor that eleminates unwanted frequencies.
